Position Overview:
PBS Business Intelligence supports the mission of PBS and its member stations by providing valuable insights into audience and member behavior, as well as trends to inform strategic decision-making across all departments. The Sr. Manager, Consumer Insights & Analysis conducts primary research, both qualitative and quantitative, identifying current attitudes and use of public television, needs of parents, educators, and children, motivators to donate, perceptions of the PBS brand overall, as well as other video platforms and services.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Serve as the in-house expert on primary research, including all methods of qualitative and quantitative research
• Provide research insight, consultation, design, project management, reporting, and presentations for all corporate areas, working with client representatives across departments
• Work across PBS departments to understand key research needs and develop appropriate methodologies and instruments to meet those needs
• Work with internal clients to design and program questionnaires, online discussion guides, and other research instruments
• Analyze and report on survey results and syndicated research data
• Seek out cost-effective solutions to gathering consumer interests and perceptions
• Manage research vendors for outsourced studies
• Collaborate with Sr. Manager Impact Strategy to design and implement instruments to collect impact and local engagement data
• Identify information gaps and innovate new research studies to fill them
• Provide audience information and analyses on a per-request basis for stations, producers, and others; assist team members as requested
• Build and nurture relationships with member station colleagues to support them and collaborate on efforts to benefit the system
Requirements for success:
• Minimum 5 years' work experience managing research projects and reporting research results, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant area, such as research methods, math, computer science, or economics
• Master's degree in a related field preferred
• Passion for evaluating audience trends and providing recommendations
• Strong analytic skills and exceptional aptitude in media math
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, must be a comfortable and experienced public speaker and storyteller
• A highly motivated, superbly organized, strategic thinker who is a strong leader & team player
• Must possess strong Excel and PowerPoint skills and the ability to bring research to life
• Should possess a passion for television content and a curiosity to understand viewer behavior
• Familiarity with online survey tools and consumer research databases, such as Qualtrics, YouGov, MRI, Nielsen or Google Analytics a plus
• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
