STATUS: Full-time/Regular/Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Vice President, Multiplatform Programming & Head of Development

Position Overview:

The Senior Director, Programming & Development will serve as a key contributor in the execution of the General Audience Programming strategy across platforms, with particular focus in the genres of Science, Natural History and History. Working in collaboration with producers and colleagues on the Multiplatform Programming and Development team, the Senior Director will take a proactive approach to shepherding projects from development to distribution. The Senior Director will serve as editorial executive over a variety of projects and lead the efforts of multiple outside producers and producing entities simultaneously. The position also supports the Vice President of Multiplatform Programming & Head of Development and the Chief Programming Executive and General Manager in building and maintaining collaborative interdepartmental multiplatform content initiatives.

Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Maintain strong relationships with PBS member stations, independent producers, agents and distributors.

• Contribute to the strategic vision and direction of PBS by ensuring that development and production projects are in alignment with the PBS multiplatform content strategy and support the schedule as a whole.

• Collaborate with other editorial team members to ensure projects in development and production are complementary and contribute to collective PBS mission.

• Work closely with PBS member stations and independent producers on multiple series and specials simultaneously and ensure timely, effective and on-budget development, production and delivery of original programming.

• Review and convey timely editorial comments and guidance to production partners at all stages of project.

• Serve as editorial lead and main contact on all aspects of assigned projects, directly responsible for pushing project information to internal teams in a timely manner.

• Lead initiatives that have organization-wide implications as assigned by the Vice President, Multiplatform Programming and Head of Development.

• As requested by Vice President, Multiplatform Programming & Head of Development and/or Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, represent PBS and GA Programming at general public and PBS system events, panels and industry markets.

• Adhere to, and is accountable for, all aspects of PBS's editorial, budgetary and production standards, as well as contractual and deliverable requirements for PBS programming.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:
• Bachelors' degree in Film, Television, Communications or related field

• 8 years of experience developing, producing or executive producing content for national and/or global platforms

• A proven track record of developing and executing innovative and well-rated factual content, with demonstrable emphases on diverse perspectives and staffing.

• Experience working successfully with teams, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

• Proficiency in TV production economics and management and familiarity with latest technical standards.

• Experience with and understanding of international content market and financing opportunities, across platforms.

• Demonstrated strong working relationships on a team with other internal executives, with a collaborative commitment to realizing company strategic goals.

• A demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit in developing and executing ideas.
• Outstanding editorial judgment and creative abilities, strong verbal and written communications skills, and demonstrated leadership skills.
• Management skills with the ability to develop and manage talent.
• Ability to work closely with related internal PBS departments including Promotion, Education, Marketing and Digital Content.
• Creativity, flexibility, and ability to function in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
• An independent thinker and collaborative team player with a commitment to raise up other colleagues.
• A respect and passion for public media and what it represents to its viewers.
• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
