Senior Director, Programming and Development (Hybrid)

Position Overview:
The Senior Director, Programming and Development will develop an array of multiplatform content including arts, lifestyle, performance, and culture in alignment with the GAP content strategy, organizational priorities, and viewership goals. Working in collaboration with producers, the Senior Director will take a proactive approach to program development from idea generation to air; procure and manage the highest quality content in support of GAP's national/local programming efforts; draw upon program development and management, scheduling digital content and distribution, social media, and marketing to inform strategies; and work to implement new multiplatform distribution models and engagement to help increase the reach and visibility of that content.
They will also work with the Programming Leadership Team to refresh existing programs and, as appropriate, commission new programs. The Senior Director will have creative oversight of a variety of development and production projects and lead the efforts of multiple outside producers and producing entities simultaneously. The position also supports the Vice President, Multiplatform Programming & Head of Development and the Chief Programming Executive and GM in devising and implementing departmental organizational, structural and production initiatives. They will work closely with colleagues throughout PBS to promote and coordinate related activities for PBS member stations.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Develop and maintain new and strong existing relationships with PBS member stations, independent producers, agents and writers.
• Contribute to the strategic vision and direction of PBS, ensuring that existing development and production projects are in alignment with the GA Programming strategy to help inform the distribution strategy as a whole.
• Lead initiatives that have organization-wide implications as determined by the Vice President, Multiplatform Programming & Head of Development and other GAP leadership.
• Guide the development and production of primetime programming of original, co-production and reversion projects.
• Work closely with PBS member stations and independent producers on multiple series and specials simultaneously and in coordination with PBS departments to ensure timely, effective and on-budget development, production and delivery of original programming.
• Serve as a Team Lead and main contact on all aspects of development and production, directly responsible for pushing project information to internal teams and ensuring that PBS is maximizing the potential of each project.
• Review and convey timely comments to program producers on all stages of development and production.
• Adhere to, and accountable for, all aspects of PBS's editorial, budgetary and production standards, as well as contractual and deliverable requirements for PBS programming.
• Support and represent Vice President, Multiplatform Programming & Head of Development in department personnel and systems management and devise and implement organizational and production protocols.
Requirements for success:
• 8 years of experience developing, producing or executive producing primetime television on a national level and possess knowledge of owned and 3rd party platform distribution.
• Experience within the genres of arts and lifestyle required with examples of major productions managed.
• A proven track record of developing and executing innovative scripted and non-scripted television programs.
• Highly skilled in media management and production economics.
• Experience and understanding of international and domestic television markets and financing models.
• Demonstrated track record in creative execution and metrics-based performance as well as the ability to manage the creative process from concept to air.
• Experience managing a slate of multiple television projects simultaneously.
• Successfully build and maintain effective relationships with on-air talent, producers, writers, and directors in the entertainment industry.
• Experience managing outside producers, building credibility and strong working relationships with other internal executives, and generating commitment to goals.
• Bachelors' degree in Theatre, Communications, Media, or related field.
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
