Product Manager - Audience Engagement

PBS serves the American public with the highest-quality programming and services, using media to educate, inspire, entertain, and express diverse perspectives.
We are seeking a Product Manager for our Audience Engagement grant who will help guide the implementation of modernizing the audience experience across PBS web and mobile products. The 3-year grant-funded project aims to expand the capacity for PBS and Member Stations to grow prospective audiences and engage more deeply with audiences across all digital platforms.
You will be part of a team that supports development of unique and compelling experiences across all digital touch points including implementing audience segmentation tools, recommendation engine technologies, data analysis and collection methodologies, audience engagement tactics, tailored marketing, membership campaigns, and more. All of which are needed to keep PBS and PBS Member Stations competitive in the ever-evolving media landscape.
Requirements for success:
• Quick learner that can understand the current state of our system, including people, processes, and technology, to align business and product strategy.
• Ability to develop a deep understanding of our audience needs and behaviors and drive requirements that address gaps at each stage of the user's journey.
• Define and execute strategies developed by the Business Intelligence, Marketing, Product, Streaming Platform, and Station Services project leads.
• Effective communicator willing to present and defend ideas across technical, non-technical, and senior leadership.
• Comfortable serving as a product owner on the scrum team to maintain the product backlog and track performance against goals/OKRs.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment and knows when to rely on near, virtual, and geographically dispersed teammates to understand technical challenges, tradeoffs, and how to overcome them.
• Passionate about understanding customer problems and building products and user experiences that customers love.
• Figures out ways to measure product performance and uses data to build hypotheses, identify strategic opportunities and inform decisions and recommendations for the product.
• Helps devise and carry out a/b tests to validate and iterate on features.
• Partners with cross-functional teams to understand how our different services work together to create vision, strategy, and stories for the product.
• Leads large, complex product launches by working with relevant stakeholders and multiple product teams.
• Self-motivated, scrappy, resourceful, and excited about building products in a rapidly changing media landscape.
Nice to Haves:
• Working knowledge of one or more of the following: Digital fundraising, AI/Machine Learning concepts and technologies, behavioral segmentation, recommendation engines, personalization technologies.
• Prior experience with CRMs, ESPs, marketing automation tools and platforms.
• Understanding of customer monetization strategies, retention practices and principles.
• Experience working with large data sets and analytics platforms.
• Comfortable with internal workings of back-end services and APIs.
• Experience with agile scrum development.
• Familiarity with data governance, accessibility, and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
• Previous experience building technology in the public media, broadcast networks, entertainment, or streaming services space.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical area, or equivalent experience.
• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
