Position Overview:

Manager, Post-Production executes the design and development of post-production elements used to package National Program Service programs and produces sizzle reels and clips to be used in various conferences, presentations, and awards submissions.

The incumbent ensures that final deliverables meet PBS technical, editorial, and broadcast guidelines. Reporting to the Director, Post-Production, this position works collaboratively with the Programming team and colleagues in Marketing and Communications and Technology & Operations, as well as with outside vendors.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Executes and accountable for post-production work for national broadcast and digital platforms. This includes design and development of packaging elements and other creative requirements, ensuring alignment with technical specs, budgets, delivery timelines and required documentation.

• With minimal supervision from the Director, Post-Production, produces packaging elements that seamlessly integrate with program content, including underwriter pods, production credits, behind-the-scenes fillers, and edits for time and FCC compliance. Creates unique series graphics, as needed.

• Specializes in the proficient use of editing and graphic design software to conceptualize and develop video mockups. Skillfully pitches various design options to Director, Post-Production, Programming senior management and other departments for input and final approval.

• Edits content lifts/clips, writes, and produces sizzle reels and trailers for media events, large-scale presentations, and awards submissions. Actively manages distribution and archives of all media assets. Writes and produces staff technical training videos, as needed.

• Expertly assesses program master technical evaluation reports and works with relevant parties to resolve discrepancies. Acts as the knowledgeable key resource for producers and PBS staff on unpackaged post-production delivery specifications and creative guidance.

• Initiates and leads meetings with editors, Programming, and other PBS staff to negotiate content requirements and production delivery timelines to various distribution points.

• Project manages the entire packaging process, including supervision of video editors during edit sessions and related resources. Advises on editorial and creative guidelines and Programming senior staff's preferences.

• Researches, selects, supervises, and provides direction to VO talent and outside post-production vendors with regards to negotiating costs, creative design, technical specs, project timelines, and final delivery.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:
• At least 6 years' experience working in programming or post-production in media or arts, preferably within a public broadcasting environment, as well as experience in the creative development and execution of short-form content or elements. Experience managing vendor agreements & bids preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Bachelor's degree in communications or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Proficient use of industry standard non-linear editing software, e.g., Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, etc.

• Knowledge of television programming and familiarity with public television programming, distribution,guidelines, and practices regarding program distribution

• Professional experience in the use of standard post-production techniques and activities in a television environment

• Excellent interpersonal and public speaking abilities

• Strong verbal, writing and proofreading skills

• Ability to work well under pressure, which includes ability to multi-task, respond quickly and effectively to short turnarounds on projects, and adhere to strict deadlines

• Ability to see creative and project ideas through to completion

• Financial and budget management skills

• Experience supervising vendors and managing agreements and bids

• Effective organizational skills

• Advanced independent problem-solving and judgement skills

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
