Position Overview:

The PBS Foundation provides philanthropic support on behalf of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). In supporting PBS, the PBS Foundation (PBSF) seeks private funds from individuals, foundations, and corporations, as well as from select government entities for priority initiatives, and carries out such activities as prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship; generation of proposals; grants management; and management of the Foundation's Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Director, Philanthropic Communications and Stewardship and working closely with the fundraising team, the Events Manager oversees the design and implementation of special events and programs, and donor relations activities. The incumbent will help create an atmosphere that enhances the profile and success of the PBS Foundation. The incumbent will interact with high-level donors, volunteers, administrators, and vendors; therefore excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and follow-up are crucially important.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Positively impacts Development results by:

• Coordinating stewardship and recognition programs which build relationships with internal and external constituencies

• Implementing events that raise awareness of PBS

• Overseeing the event logistics for Board, Campaign, and Committee meetings as well as retreats

• Develops strategies and manages the coordination of Foundation events by:

• Determining purpose and desired outcome of events and meetings

• Ensuring all Foundation events are managed with the highest level of professionalism and presentation from concept to evaluation

• Developing invitations, program content, and structure

• Create invitation lists, manage lists, and RSVP lists and communicating appropriately

• Developing a theme (if needed) for the event

• Constructing a proposed budget for events and effectively monitoring budget compliance

• Contacting and interviewing a variety of featured guests and vendors, such as caterers, speakers, florists

• Choosing an appropriate menu

• Arranging for appropriate facilities and materials to be used

• Determining location and logistics for the event

• Communicating event plans and information with involved staff

• Maintaining detailed timelines and records of activities associated with each event along with event summary/budget reports

• Analyzing events (individually and collectively) as a tool for building ongoing donor relationships among individual participants, sponsor organizations and volunteers

• Utilizing database and electronic events software appropriately

Collaborates with Communications and Stewardship colleagues to direct and manage donor relations activities including:
• Overseeing the creation of consistent stewardship and engagement processes

• Coordinating gifts program activities

• Overseeing and ensuring the gift closet is properly stocked and maintained

• Ensuring activities are documented in database

• Designing and coordinating high touch donor engagement activities

Requirements for success:
• At least three years of experience in Development in a non-profit and/or educational institution.

• Experience adhering to the highest standard of professional ethics and ethics policies set forth by CASE, AFP, and similar organizations.

• Ability to initiate and lead special projects.

• Ability to develop organized approaches to problem solving. Ability to independently develop and analyze alternative solutions and make recommendations.

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.

• Highly organized with ability to complete multiple high priority tasks within set deadlines.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent attention to detail;

• Exceptional judgment skills.

• Self-motivated individual who can work independently and as part of a team in a highly-collaborative environment.

• Consistently demonstrates respect for inclusion, diversity, and ethics.

• Ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information appropriately.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
