SUPERVISOR: Director, Audience Engagement

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The Email Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and executing impactful e-mail marketing strategies in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders including, Audience 360, Distribution and Digital Video Operations, Fundraising, Marketing, Product Development, and Station Services teams.

The candidate will be responsible for owning all elements of the email marketing production channel including PBS newsletters, email campaign planning, segmentation, production and distribution of emails, campaign quality control, data requests, reporting/analysis and optimization.

The successful candidate will have proven experience leveraging data analysis in the optimization of email program development and measurement, and robust experience creating commercially successful marketing programs that drive campaign results. The position will support and complement local PBS station efforts around membership and fundraising.

Essential duties will include, but not limited to:
• Manage all elements of email newsletters and campaign development to include program design, builds, pre-deployment testing/QA and deployment of dynamic triggered (automated programs) and batch emails.

• Align with PBS video and marketing teams on editorial voice, content strategy and promotional priorities that reflects PBS mission, supports local PBS member stations and expands the audience.

• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to evolve customer segmentation and strategies that are informed by data and A/B testing.

• Establish strategy and policy to prioritize email campaigns and align and support local PBS member stations in their local email marketing and membership efforts.

• Derive actionable insights from email performance data. Build, manage and enforce email guidelines across PBS departments.

• Create email marketing best practices to be shared with PBS producers, local PBS member stations and other partners.

• Develop modern email channel KPIs on a regular reporting basis and provide recommendations to senior Marketing team on opportunities to improve the email performance.

• Evaluate and enhance PBS capabilities with Eloqua email tool, provide recommendations for email product roadmap that supports PBS marketing goals.

• Partner with PBS creative and design teams to refresh look of existing PBS newsletters and design compelling new creative look for other email campaigns.

• Maintain high deliverability and inboxing rates. Diagnose and solve any related issues.

• Design and perform A/B testing on multiple campaigns to continually improve campaign performance.

• Contribute to efforts to expand PBS email subscriber list through marketing, partnerships and other efforts.

• Develop email strategies to drive efficient open and click thru rates and measurable lift in customer engagement, retention and profitability.

• Work with Product Development and Business Intelligence teams to implement email strategies and analysis.

Requirements for success:
• 3-5 years of direct-to-consumer email marketing and/or communications experience

• Successful track record in managing social media content and voice for high-profile organizations.

• Experience with Eloqua strongly preferred.

• Experience understanding, building, and interpreting email metrics.

• Experience with content marketing strategy, editorial programming and promotional strategies, and creative campaign development

• Demonstrated ability to run A/B tests and evolve strategy with data-influenced decisions.

• Experience with audience segmentation strategy

• Interest and experience with news and other non-fiction content a plus

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• In-depth familiarity with online and email marketing best practices and algorithms, and ability to communicate them to various internal and external audiences

• Ability to remain creative, diplomatic, calm under pressure

• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional department, and to foster communication and collaboration internally and externally

• Strong project management and organizational skills

• Ability to take initiative and act proactively

• Ability to work in a hybrid environment.

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree. Preferred area of study Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
