Position Overview:

PBS and its member stations have a robust network of streaming video channels to bring the power of public media to all Americans, whenever, wherever, and however they consume content. The Director of Platform Operations is responsible for the distribution of national programs across PBS owned-and-operated and third-party streaming video platforms, including but not limited to PBS.org, PBS Video Apps, YouTube, etc.

The primary focus of this role is to manage and/or lead curation and windowing strategies of national content, related product features and marketing campaign strategies that seek to enhance audience streaming experiences across owned and third-party platforms. Secondarily the role manages a balanced library of content in both the free and paid streaming windows. As such they serve as a key stakeholder with internal and external partners such as PBS Distribution and national producers to ensure catalogue offerings are being made available to audiences in accordance with contractual obligations. And finally, the role supports the overall video asset delivery process to ensure efficiency and standard procedures are being upheld as it relates to delivery of national content to PBS for distribution across platforms.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Oversee the editorial programming of PBS streaming platforms to achieve strategic business goals.

• Develop, collaborate, and manage content distribution and curation efforts of national streaming content, including but not limited to catch-up streaming after broadcast and digital-only and digital-first releases on streaming platforms. This includes content in the free and paid streaming windows (i.e. free and PBS Passport streaming).

• Oversee communications about streaming schedules to internal and external stakeholders.

• Lead and support collaboration across departments and levels within PBS national.

• Utilize and participate in market research and streaming metrics to inform business and content decisions

• Lead efforts with Product Development teams to improve overall audience experiences across owned PBS streaming platforms, including but not limited to content discoverability, video streaming, and high-profile non-video related business priorities such as education and PBS member stations-centric campaigns.

• Support marketing efforts related to streaming campaigns across all platforms.

• Proven track record of creating compelling digital video experiences that meet expectations in terms of measurable goals.

• Manage staff whose roles overlap with the above responsibilities.

Requirements for success:
• 5-7 years of managerial and combined experience in one or more of the following areas: digital content development, digital distribution, web production, or multi-media management

• Bachelor of Arts, Degree in marketing, television/film, communications, or related discipline preferred.

• Ability to work in a hybrid remote and in-person environment.

• Understanding of web publishing principles, including SEO, metadata, and project management.

• Excellent editorial judgment and content analysis skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to develop plans, capture and analyze data, summarize findings and implement initiatives.

• Interest in gaining or growing experience with digital platforms, streaming services and broadcast networks.

• An ability to communicate and work collaboratively with internal and external teams with competing priorities.

• Interest in learning how to research and craft digital strategies.

• Interest in crafting and executing comprehensive digital distribution and curation strategies.

• Ability to take initiative and act independently and proactively.

• Strong project management and organizational skills.

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
