Content Manager

Team: PBS KIDS Digital

Status: Full-time/Exempt/Fixed-term: Funded by a grant through February 2022

The Content Manager works with the PBS KIDS for Parents editorial team to support parents and caregivers of young children in their educational and social-emotional development. This position is part of a grant-funded project focused on enabling PBS member stations to engage with parents in their communities on digital platforms and in-person local programs. This position ends in February 2022.

The Content Manager will work with PBS member stations throughout the country to establish a national searchable collection of parenting content. Specifically, this person will find and collect parenting content created for local communities (locally produced parenting videos, activities, etc.) and manage the ingestion, curation and distribution of that content. This person will also manage the strategy for digital distribution of PBS KIDS for Parents content to local stations.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
• Works with the cross-functional the MACP Parent Engagement in Schools team, the PBS KIDS for Parents team, PBS local member stations, and other stakeholders to develop a national parent content syndication strategy as well as to collect and distribute local content from stations.

• Maintains standards and guidelines for station content collection. Oversees the preparation of digital assets according to editorial and technical standards.

• Develops and provides training to station contributors to ensure quality and accuracy of submissions and that rights agreements are in place.

• Reviews contributor assets and provides timely feedback to contributors.

• Manages the digital database, including the metadata hierarchy and workflow for adding content and metadata.
Oversees the process and accuracy of the content mapping to curriculum frameworks.

• Creates a strategy to feature content submitted by stations on the PBS KIDS for Parents site.

• Manages the process of editing, publishing and retiring content.

• Collaborates with the PBS station relations team to assist stations with implementation of syndication tools.

• Works in partnership with stations to build awareness and usage of aggregated content and resources.

• Works with the technical team to implement appropriate improvements and changes to the CMS.

Requirements for success:
• A minimum of 4 to 6 years combined experience in one or more of the following areas: editorial and digital production experience; content strategy; content organization, meta data development; resource description creation;

• Bachelor's degree with major in journalism, education, communications, or Masters degree in Library Science, or equivalent combination of education and work experience;

• Must have digital publishing and CMS management experience ;

• Must have experience managing projects in a cross-functional team environment;

• Must be resourceful, self-directed, and a creative problem-solver who can meet aggressive deadlines;

• Experience developing educational resources for kids and parents a plus;

• A strong understanding of database management, human computer interaction and information retrieval systems;

• Results-driven attitude with ability to identify and focus on strategic priorities;

• General knowledge of and strong interest in young children and/or early childhood education;

• Digital publishing skills, including SEO, metadata, project management;

• Familiarity with Google Analytics and basic traffic development strategies;

• Strong management skills; ability to work with product managers, technologists and designers inside and outside of the company;

• Superior organizational skills and orientation to details;

• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills;

• Must be a strategic thinker who can meet aggressive deadlines;

• Ability to plan, problem solve, and prioritize several assignments at the same time.
