STATUS: Full-Time / Regular / Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director, Programming Operations & Strategy

The Associate Director of Content & Strategy will support the development and production supervision of the General Audience programming slate in alignment with our overall multi-platform programming mission to provide content of superior value to our member stations and the viewing audience. The incumbent will also support strategic business and operational activities for key projects to maximize the effectiveness of PBS General Audience Programming's priorities.

The Associate Director of Content & Strategy will work in collaboration with the Senior Director, Programming Operations & Strategy, the Senior Director, Content & Business Strategy, and the entire GA Programming editorial team to assist in program development, from idea generation to air. Other responsibilities include drafting GA content and business reports and presentations; and serve as a project manager for GA Programming activities and initiatives to ensure successful outcomes.

This position is ideal for a candidate who is eager to grow his/her editorial skills and project management skills and appreciates the value and services that public television delivers.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
• In conjunction with editorial team, work with producers, co-producers and distributors to provide editorial oversight during development and production stage.

• Provide support to the Senior Director, Programming Operations & Strategy in project management and operational activities related to content and organizational initiatives, including but not limited to, the preparation of grant proposals, reports and deliverables, planning and execution around PBS Annual Meeting sessions, and workflow assessments around business needs.

• Provide support to the Senior Director, Content & Business Strategy in the drafting and writing of reports related to diversity, content planning, and content performance for PBS Board Meetings as well as the drafting and preparation of talking points/scripts/written materials for internal and external uses. Also assist in preparing slides and other visual aids for presentations.

• Develop and sustain productive relationships with all PBS departments to understand their needs, determine areas of strength and opportunity, and serve as a liaison between PBS General Audience Programming and other departments.

• Assist in the analysis related to programming investment to support content planning and the development of the annual GA PBS Budget and Operating plan.

• Support the implementation and maintenance of strategic and operational initiatives.

• Manage the awards process, which includes tracking, gathering materials, completing applications, and submitting titles for consideration during award cycles.

• Initiate, organize, and execute GA Programming research projects related to industry.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:
• Bachelor's degree in TV/radio/film, mass communications, liberal arts, journalism or related field

• Master's degree work preferred

• 5-7 years in television management and/or production management with experience in managing primetime media.

• Must have experience in programming, production and digital/linear broadcasting.

• General knowledge of the media industry.

• General knowledge of project deliverables within media industry.

• Experience working with independent producers preferred.

• Experience preparing executive-level presentations, written materials and talking points.

• Knowledge and literacy in the media business across multiple platforms.

• Proven track record of working with and maintaining confidential information.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including superior editing, proofing, and proficiency with grammar.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Strong analytical skills, able to research and synthesize information.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance overlapping deadlines.

• Ability to work independently and proactively, exercising sound judgment.

• Ability to collaborate as a team player with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.

• Proactively stays current in requisite skills within job scope and incorporates knowledge and other feedback into work.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Consistently demonstrates respect for inclusion, diversity, and ethics.

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
