Division Overview-

We are the Global Video Streaming Services Tech & Video Operations, and we are responsible for supporting the video delivery and architecture of VOD and Live content streamed on over 15 platforms for CBS Digital & Paramount+ applications and sites. We are also responsible for the encoding and delivery of premium content to millions of users every day.

Role Details-
Our team is seeking a Principal Video Architect to help define and architect the technical implementation for key video playback functionality. This includes things like encoding and packaging but also enabling features like dvr, manifest manipulation, instant live to vod, drm and many more. You will help define and evolve the technical architecture for video delivery workflows supporting Paramount+. The role will require cross team engagement as well as collaboration with other architects and key engineering teams to help scale the systems required to achieve the optimal playback experience. The Principal Video Architect will lead the collaborative group in defining a best in class solution to deliver a product or feature. This role is fully remote! Does this sound like you? Your day-to-day-
• Building proof of concept and prototype for new technologies and features in OTT streaming.
• Design and deliver media playback solutions, considering all involved systems and teams.
• Working closely with other engineering teams to figure out how to scale the POC's and new technologies once proven out.
• Partner with required teams such as Infrastructure, Dev Ops, Product, Operations, Engineering and Project management teams, translate business and operational requirements to lead solution design with new workflows, media component integrations that have the potential to scale globally within required timelines.
• Coordinate solution implementation efforts across a wide range of engineering teams, QA, Operations and others.
• Provide subject matter expertise on best in class video streaming and delivery standards for OTT services.
• Create technical architecture documents and solution requirements that cover cross-system coordination, video delivery needs, dependencies, and operational capabilities.
• Champion philosophy and approach for best-in-class architectures with buy-in from engineering teams.
• Participate in integration testing, user acceptance testing, and technical product validation.
• Work closely to help enable new feature development by figuring out how the feature affects overall operations and how to make it work at scale.

What you bring to the team-
• Experience within the engineering domain as a Principal Architect, Application Architect, Principal Engineer, Developer or technical lead role.
• 5+ years of video playback experience, architecting and designing complex video playback solutions.
• Knowledge of OTT video delivery pipelines and end to end digital video stack, including basic networking concepts, source origination, video ingest and encoding, and packaging including encryption and DRM.
• Knowledge of video streaming protocols, video and audio codecs, embedded video metadata (SCTE-35, ID-3) and DAI.
• Experience in leading and managing large cross team initiatives.
• High level understanding of video playback across a wide range of devices such as Roku, iOS, Android and more.
• Knowledge of live video transmission acquisition and/or OTT encoding distribution workflows.
• Fluency in more than one programming language (e.g. Java, C++, Go, Kotlin, Clojure, Scala, Ruby, Python, Perl).
• Experience with web technologies, digital video workflow and operations, and digital video technology development.
• Experience building distributed systems with SOA or micro services architecture.
• Experience with live video delivery, video origin architecture, and issues of scale for live video delivery.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, debugging, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Extremely motivated and is energized by big challenges with a keen eye for detail.
• Operate both independently and as part of a broader team; balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a results-oriented environment.

You might also have –
• Hands-on experience working with SCRUM or other agile development methodologies.
• Experience working with Video performance / measurement tools and QoS products.
• Experience working with content management systems.
