Job Description

Senior Podcast Editor/ Supervising Editor, Indicator, Planet Money

OVERVIEW

Across our organization, we’re building a workplace where collaboration is essential, diverse voices are heard, and inclusion is the key to our success.

Can you explain what’s going on in the economy right now with clarity, brevity, wit and maybe even some pathos? In under 10 minutes? Of course not. Nobody can. But at The Indicator from Planet Money we take a stab at a different slice of that in short, accessible doses each day. We’re a small, extremely collaborative and tight-knit team with broad creative freedom to tell stories however we can – sometimes it’s a sympathetic character narrative, or maybe field reporting or humor, or whatever else we can dream up. We’ve built a large, devoted, audience who count on us. Now we’re looking for an editor we can count on to spot stories, sharpen scripts and set a coverage agenda along with us.

We aim to cover and represent the breadth of economic realities. Our show is built on the taste, observations, curiosity and insight of our staff, as such, we put a high value on the diversity of lived experiences among our staff. That’s what leads to our best and most accurate coverage. People from all races, genders, identities are encouraged to apply.

• Spot stories and news
• Ensure every episode meets our high standards for craft, journalism, and tone and substance

• Maybe you’ve covered econ, or business, or studied it, or worked up close to it.
• But you other interests and like talking about things like arcs and stakes and pacing and agents.
• You know how to make an audience feel something.
• You often ask, “Why should I care?”
• You are skeptical, but still idealistic. Serious but funny. Warm but also fierce when it is called for.
• You are editing this posting right now.
• Tell us what you love about what we do and why you want to join an exceptionally talented team at a key moment in our history. Tell us how you’d edit The Indicator.
