Job Description
OVERVIEW

Weekend Edition is seeking a highly-skilled, creative journalist with a strong focus on news-driven content to join our team. The Producer/Editor will play a leading role in shaping the show's coverage of news, both during the live broadcast and in the field. The successful candidate can respond quickly during breaking news, plan and execute long-term projects and host remotes, and work closely with the show host and editorial and production staff. The Producer/Editor may line edit or line produce, as needed, handle bookings, and prepare and edit material for daily, future and ongoing broadcasts.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Tracks ongoing flow of news and consistently generates timely, news-focused and well-thought-out story/interview ideas, generating assignments for self and others.
• Edits interviews and related continuity, with minimal editorial supervision.
• May act as line editor or line producer for the on-air production of NPR programs, both regularly scheduled programs and special reports
• Pitches, plans, produces and/or edits host remotes, leading editorially in the field.
• Responsible for editorial integrity and quality of products, ensuring that all materials meet NPR standards and practices.
• Maintains internal relationships with other members of the staff and with other NPR program and desk staffs.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Producer/Editor II - At least six years of experience as a reporter, editor, or producer in a broadcast newsroom.
• Producer/Editor III - At least eight years of experience as a reporter, editor, or producer in a broadcast newsroom.
• Producer/Editor II - A minimum of two years of experience in editorial decision-making
• Producer/Editor III- A minimum of four years of experience in editorial decision-making
• Demonstrated ability to help coordinate daily news coverage quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure
• Demonstrated excellence in news writing and copy-editing, especially on deadline.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes, with changing priorities/conditions, particularly in the field.
• Experience maintaining high journalistic standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, accuracy and fairness.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
• Ability and willingness to work varied shifts as assigned. Weekend Edition's schedule includes Saturday and Sunday shifts.
• Ability to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations.
