NPR is seeking a Head of Philanthropic Ventures who will lead the strategic direction and execution of this new function within the Development Division with the overall goal of driving philanthropic revenue growth for NPR. Includes the establishment and management of a rigorous and disciplined innovation process to identify and deliver on new fundraising growth opportunities, cross-functional program packaging, donor communications, strategic planning, and impact measurement efforts. The Head of Philanthropic Ventures will provide direction and oversight for a geographically distributed, 5-person staff. This individual will collaborate across the Development Division and the NPR network to ensure alignment. This position reports directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of NPR and will be one of three members of the CDO leadership team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee the Ideation and Innovation Process, Communications, Strategic Planning, Measurement & Evaluation, and Program Packaging efforts of NPR's Development Division.
• Hire, manage, develop and mentor a staff who have responsibility for fundraising innovation and its supporting activities.
• Partner with NPR's Audience Development, News and Programming teams to develop the vision for multi-year planning for program packaging and the development of new strategic fundraising initiatives.
• Partner as appropriate with National Public Media to develop ''off-the-shelf'' philanthropic funding opportunities for incorporation into NPM proposals. Co-develop custom joint proposals that further support NPR and ensure strategies and relationships are coordinated.
• Work closely with the Marketing team to build greater visibility with prospective donors through communications.
• Develop a standardized innovation process and prioritization metrics to evaluate feasibility of growth concepts from ideation to pilot and implementation.
• Source new ideas from internal and external sources, staying on the cutting edge of philanthropic practices.
• In partnership with Finance, set revenue goals from new sources and incubate new ideas.
• Liaison with other areas of NPR and externally and represent NPR and the Development Division.
• Build and reinforce a culture of encouragement, respect and open communication promoting a collegial environment that encourages teamwork and thrives on diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
• Cultivate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Commitment to NPR's mission, the broader public radio landscape, and high-quality journalism.
• Open and collaborative leadership style with a strategic outlook.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in fundraising innovation, ideation, partnerships and creating compelling solutions and proposals for donor investment.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience managing a high-performing team, including staff oversight.
• A proven track record of delivering revenue growth for a mission-based organization.
• Demonstrated ability to advance concepts through the stages of innovation including ideation, evaluation, and pilot.
• Experience with donor communications as a strategic tool for growth.
• Significant experience developing and building partnerships while managing relationships with senior stakeholders across multiple organizations and disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate data into decision-making and strategy development.

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience within the media industry.
• A passion for the mission and voices of public media.
• Experience with the challenges of working across a large organization and a wide network that has multiple stakeholders and agendas.
• Advanced degree or record of continuing education.
