Grant Writing and Reporting Manager (Grant Funded)
OVERVIEW

The Grant Writing and Reporting Manager is responsible for producing compelling grant reports and proposals to secure funding from grant-making organizations for multi-disciplinary projects that include technology, user experience and business needs. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, the incumbent will write, assemble and submit grant requests that persuasively communicate NPR's efforts to distribute programming; write reports on funded outcomes as required; conduct prospect research; and manage an organized calendar of submissions and other deadlines.

Responsibilities:
• Draft persuasive and dynamic proposals and letters of inquiry following guidelines and deadlines.
• Develop and write grant reports to grant-making organizations, to include where appropriate a comprehensive analysis of distribution-related metrics and outcomes, and ensure appropriate reviews by stakeholders and timely submissions.
• Develop templates for grants and reports to streamline the production of materials, and update the language and metrics quarterly.
• Ensure that NPR is compliant with funders' reporting requirements.
• Work closely with managers and program directors to ensure a solid understanding of initiatives, programs and activities of NPR Distribution and present that information effectively to secure and report on funding.
• Document and track all timelines and deadlines, including for submissions, pending grants and prospects.
• Coordinate with and maintain an understanding of various projects with the Program Management Office and the technical teams so as to inform the grant proposals, progress reports and final reports of the metrics and outcomes.
• Conduct prospect research by researching foundations, government funding and corporate giving programs using appropriate resources; analyze whether a funder is an appropriate match.
• Prioritize projects to keep multiple assignments moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals and reports.
• Provide writing or editing support for communications and development related materials, including grant letters, acknowledgements, annual reports and press releases.
• Develop and deliver presentations to and for senior executives; coordinate with colleagues across the enterprise, including the Development and Sponsorship teams.

Work Location: This is a hybrid-work permitted role. The role is based out of our Washington, DC, office.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field required; MBA or master's degree in related field preferred.

Required Skills:

The exact level of this position will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and skills
• Minimum of seven years of experience in grant writing, including federal grants, editing and related work with proven track record of successful grant awards.
• Superior written and oral communication skills, including a capacity to communicate complex ideas, program-related metrics and outcomes compellingly to a variety of audiences. Skills should include experience with technical writing.
• Strong grammar and editing skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle difficult problems and interact with senior/executive management and external/internal stakeholders with confidence and tact.
• Strong computer skills, including compiling and framing graphics, metrics and charts, and experience with prospect research tools and funder databases.
• Successful track record in crafting effective and compelling proposals and reports to meet specified guidelines.
• Highly organized with attentiveness to details and strict adherence to deadlines and deliverables.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong preference for experience working at a nonprofit organization.
• Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced and changing work environment and able to work well under pressure.
• Highly collaborative with an appreciation of the benefit of a multidisciplinary team approach. Experience working with senior executives.

Preferred Skills:
• Knowledge or experience with public media issues.
• Skills or experience with analyzing program-related metrics and outcomes.
• Microsoft Suite, Slack, Google and Salesforce experience. Understanding of Agile and project management principles.
• Library and research skills, including experience in Lexis Nexus.

SALARY

The minimum annual salary for this role is $100,000
