OVERVIEW

The Employee Relations Manager will facilitate and manage employee relations at NPR, including conducting internal investigations of workplace concerns, coaching managers and staff on effective conflict resolution, and developing and updating policies and procedures on employee relations. This position will oversee the policies, procedures, and programs related to forming positive employee relations at NPR. This role will proactively work with managers, staff, and teams to reinforce positive and productive working relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leads and conducts workplace investigations in employment related matters including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, abusive conduct, and other potential NPR policy violations in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensures investigations are handled consistently, fairly, and in a timely manner in accordance with NPR's values and policies and any relevant laws, and makes recommendations on appropriate courses of action.
• Develops and maintains an effective case management system including the ability to run analytics, metrics, and produce data to inform employee relations best practices and strategies.
• Develops strategies and proposals to support continuous improvement of employee relations practices within NPR
• Maintains, develops, recommends, implements, and helps enforce employee relations policies and procedures to ensure compliance and help promote NPR's culture and values.
• Communicates with managers and employees regarding employee relations concerns; provides guidance and recommendations for resolution of issues and directly engages with staff to resolve concerns.
• Consults with internal and external stakeholders regarding employment related regulations and laws.
• Assists managers and supervisors of both unionized and non-unionized staff in understanding and implementing NPR policies related to performance, discipline, and related topics.
• Uses surveys, interviews, and other data sources to research potential updates and improvements to human resources policies and other employment matters.
• Advises and trains managers and supervisors on employee relations best practices and on strategies for navigating employee relations challenges and employee grievances.
• Develops and conducts internal training in partnership with the HR Career Development and Learning team to support positive employee relations and HR compliance across NPR.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience

REQUIRED SKILLS
• 5+ years of professional human resources experience
• Demonstrates and upholds the highest levels of integrity, ethical conduct, and professionalism.
• Experience conducting complex workplace investigations.
• Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal laws concerning employee and labor relations.
• Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
• Thorough understanding of dispute resolution and compensation administration.
• Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
• Thorough understanding of human resources and labor relations principles, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with employees and leadership across NPR and provide employee relations subject matter expertise to support NPR's mission, culture, and values.
• Ability to coach, mentor, advise, and partner with various stakeholders across the organization regarding employee relations issues.
• Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
