Job Description

Our client, Big Coat Media, located in the east end of Downtown Toronto is looking for an In-House Production Accountant to join their team. Our client specializes in unscripted entertainment-based programming and documentaries. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will work collaboratively within a modestly sized finance and accounting team and will be responsible for Production Cost and Payroll related duties as it pertains to Productions.

Responsibilities

· Perform the day-to-day accounting functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general accounting transactions;

· Monitor production budgets and bank accounts;

· Prepare regular production cost reports, working with the production management team to finalize financial data;

· Prepare production cashflow;

· Work with production to gather and maintain start paperwork.

· Process bi-weekly, non-union, production payroll and reports as per federal and provincial compliance requirements;

· Prepare and submit applications for various tax credits including CAVCO (PSTC) / OMDC

· Deliver breakdown of costs for CRTC and OMDC;

· Reconcile intercompany transactions with Corporate Accountant, ensuring all information is being captured accurately;

· Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all funding segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting;

· Compile information for production company audits;

· Produce ad-hoc reports to CEO, external auditor/accountant or bank as requested;

· Assist in other general accounting duties or projects as required;

· Maintain professional and technical knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, payroll legislation, non-profit tax legislation etc. by keeping abreast of changes to legislation, reviewing professional publications etc.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

· 2-3 years of production accounting experience in the TV or Film sector;

· College diploma or university degree in Accounting;

· Experience in processing payroll and payroll related reports;

· Experience in gathering data, compiling the proper information, and preparing financial reports;

· Experiencesubmitting reports for government grants, remittances, etc;

· Proficient using QuickBooks, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook);

· Knowledge of accounting in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

· Knowledge of provincial Employment Standard Act and its requirements;

· Must be responsive, reliable, highly organized, extremely detail oriented, and exhibit a strong work ethic;

· Must be naturally proactive with the ability to identify important tasks and prioritize them for completion without direction;

· Ability to work independently using an above average level of initiative;

· Must possess a high level of moral judgment for handling confidential information and monetary transactions.
