Weekend Meteorologist (NE)

North Alabama's news leader, News 19, is looking for a Meteorologist with a track record of strong breaking weather, accurate and responsible forecasting, and a driven personality for all branded newscasts and all digital platforms.

News 19 is a duopoly, WHNT & WHDF.
Once joining the Weather Authority team, you will focus on producing dynamic weather content both on air and online. This position requires digital and social media know-how to produce sharable content to our website, app and social media accounts.

T his position will handle weekend newscasts while also filling in where needed during the morning, afternoon or evenings during the week.

News 19, a legacy station serving the viewing area since 1963, is the only TV station located in the heart of the bursting at the seams downtown. After Census 2020, Huntsville was placed as the largest city in Alabama. The cost of living is one of the lowest in the Southeast, with a backdrop of beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes in the Tennessee Valley.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Produce and present weather content for all WHNT digital and social media platforms
• Respond to breaking and severe weather events as required to produce content for our digital platforms
• Experience in severe storm forecasting and coverage is a plus
• Work with the entire Weather Authority team to support and extend comprehensive weather coverage on air and online.
• Work one of the weekend shifts, with other weekdays to fill out schedule; fill in for other meteorologists' vacation and sick days
• Develop interesting and audience engaging ideas to attract users/viewers
• CBM seal or the ability to attain is a plus
• Engage with our audience on station-branded digital and social media accounts
• Participates in promotional activities on behalf of the station

Requirements & Skills
• Proven track record of accurate forecasting
• Bachelor's degree in meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• At least 3 years on-air experience in a newsroom setting
• Strong command of all social media platforms
• Writes and delivers weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to shoot video and perform non-linear editing a plus
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record required
• Flexibility to work any shift
