Job Description
The Assignment Editor is responsible for finding, researching and confirming news content for broadcast and digital platforms. You will also handle communication, distribution and logical tasks, including assigning photographers and reporters, monitoring scanners and social media feeds, answering phone calls and emails.
The Associate Producer is responsible for contributing story ideas, writing stories and segments, and compiling elements to support those stories.
• Tracks stories from all sources including government agencies, wire services and community groups
• Dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories
• Coordinates logistics for news personnel
• Participates in daily story meetings and supplies a comprehensive list of content and coverage ideas
• Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories
• Assists in writing and producing of broadcast segments
• Contributes to the editorial process and makes solid decisions in breaking news situations
• Fill-in as a newscast producer when assigned
• Work in a broadcast control room
• Work collaboratively with on-air talent, from a producing/writing perspective
• Organize and maintain list of contacts
• Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Minimum two years' experience in news operations
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Flexibility to work any shift
