Job Description

Nexstar Media Inc, America's largest local broadcasting company, is seeking an experienced Vice President/General Manager to oversee its media properties in Columbus, Georgia-DMA #127. The General Manager will have full oversight of WRBL which broadcasts programming from CBS, MeTV, ION Television, and LAFF TV, along with all associated digital properties.

WRBL News 3 is the Chattahoochee Valley's On Your Side station. The station's mission is to put the interests of its viewers, digital content consumer and clients first in everything it does. The news team delivers 24 hours of locally produced news a week on multiple platforms.

Columbus is known for its hospitality, artsy energy and thriving food scene. The community also has deep respect for its history and the military through its connection to Ft. Benning, home of the US Army Infantry and the Ranger School. Columbus is also home to American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC), which provides a range of insurance products both in the United States and globally. In recent years, Columbus has seen diversification in its local economy, tying into Georgia's booming film industry as well as tourism, with the opening of the world's longest urban whitewater course on the Chattahoochee River. Across river, on the Alabama side of the market, communities such as Eufaula, Auburn and Opelika are home to various attractions, institutions, and industries. They include Lake Eufaula, the ''Bass Fishing Capital of the World,'' Auburn University and various automotive parts suppliers tied to KIA Motors Manufacturing facility located in West Point, GA. A weekend getaway to such popular spots as Callaway Resort and Gardens, Atlanta or the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico are all no more than a short drive away.

For the right individual, this is an opportunity to join the largest broadcast group in the industry and oversee a television station duopoly with a tremendous competitive position in the market. The ideal candidate will also oversee development of the station's digital and mobile platforms including wrbl.com, one of the top visited websites in the market. It's an opportunity to identify new, creative opportunities and guide our community focused local broadcast operation to strengthen partnerships, grow ratings and drive revenue.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of three years of broadcast management experience at a commercial broadcast television station with accompanying digital assets. The right fit for this position will be a seasoned and knowledgeable professional who is a driven advocate of local broadcasting and digital service to the community in which they have previously served. This position requires a leader with exemplary strategic vision, focused execution, and a verified understanding of local outreach and thoughtful community involvement. In addition to having a proven track record of managing high-performing sales and news teams, the successful candidate must be effective in collaborating with department heads, staff members and promoting teamwork within all areas of station operations, preferably with oversight of a large staff. The ability to engage local community leaders and develop long-term relationships with key station clients is essential.
