Job Description
The Traffic Reporter/MMJ produces and anchors traffic reports for ABC4's 5am and 6am newscasts, and also for CW30's 7am newscast Monday-Fridays, as well as all media platforms. He/she is responsible for reporting traffic incidents and related news stories on the air, while they are happening. Following the morning newscasts, the traffic reporter turns into an MMJ, filing news reports from the Salt Lake City area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Adept at understanding traffic patterns and displaying them in a simple manner for viewers to understand.
• Must ad-lib information conversationally and be able to disseminate information unscripted in a compelling story telling style.
• Candidate will need to report traffic on all media platforms including on-line, mobile and social media.
• Must be able to operate the traffic computer (Baron), make graphics for air and digital.
• The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of the Utah area.
• Gathers information about events/people through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions.
• Report news stories for broadcast, able to describe background and details of events.
• Pitch stories to news managers in morning and afternoon meetings, that are relevant to the local community.
• Able to receive stories, discuss issues with managers/producers, establish priorities and make slot during shift.
• Able to shoot your own stories.
• Able to write your story, quickly and efficiently.
• Able to edit your story, and send in all necessary information related to your story.
• Posts story digitally, on eMedia platforms.
• Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
• Minimum two years' experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
• Good on-air presence
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Flexibility to work any shift

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
• Must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
• In addition, must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and can handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
