Job Description
We are looking for a strong, inspiring newscast director to join our news leadership team. This person will motivate and continually evaluate a team of directors by maintaining a positive, inclusive, and accountable environment. A successful candidate will also be a technical whiz who is not afraid to experiment with new ideas, has an eye for quality, and can communicate effectively to improve workflow.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coach directors and provide feedback and support for production team
• Assist Operations Manager in hiring, training, workflows, employee reviews and schedules
• Collaborate regularly with Executive Producers and line producers on newscast quality control and workflow improvements
• Support and supervise special productions
• Take the lead in testing new graphic and production elements
• Code and call direct daily newscasts and other original productions, floor directing, operating studio cameras/jib/steadicam and running audio board for live newscasts
• Communicate all necessary instructions to production crew before and during newscasts
• Generate daily production reports detailing technical and operational notes from newscasts, follow up and reconcile issues
• Use Ross Overdrive APC, switcher, and routers while ''calling'' the shows to the rest of live production positions
• Collaborate with producers to facilitate production elements, lighting, camera-blocking, props, set furnishings, and all other related presentation elements
• Manage guests who appear in newscasts
• Be flexible with schedule – working and filling-in on different newscasts, different shifts and days as needed
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• 5 or more years professional experience in television news production
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Must be an effective leader who can positively motivate and effectively communicate with producers and production crew and managers
• Must be able to call direct and have experience on Ross Overdrive or equivalent automated systems and willing to learn and adapt to new technologies
• Possess a working knowledge of ENPS, NRCS, video servers, graphic playout systems, video routers, switchers, ENG style cameras, robotic cameras, wireless lav microphones, audio boards
• Ability to work precisely under deadlines and pressure, making quick decisions and giving accurate instructions during live broadcasts
• Demonstrates innovative thinking and creativity in all aspects of their responsibilities
