News Producer / Video Editor

Job Description

The News Producer line produces daily newscasts, decides the order in which stories will be told, writes teases and other content, times news programs, communicates with reporters, anchors and directors about story content, elements and format, accurately relays information in breaking news situations. Advocates for stories and content to lead daily newscasts. Contributes to the daily editorial meetings with ideas to expand news coverage. Searches for interesting and engaging content across all Nexstar stations to share in daily newscasts.

Video Editor gathers and edits footage from multiple sources for newscasts, sports, and other programming.
• The News Producer
• • Produces newscasts for broadcast across all platforms
• • Writes and orders news stories
• Approves scripts
• Balances news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts
• Edits video as needed
• Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
• Performs other duties as assigned
• The Video Editor
• Ingests, records, organizes, converts, uploads/downloads video to edit for newscasts/breaking news according to scripts
• Selects and combines the most effective shots of each scene to form a logical, and smoothly running story for VO/VOSOT's/PKG's
• Reviews reporters' stories to determine whether corrections are necessary
• Tackling post-production tasks such as titling, color correction, audio correction, basic graphic knowledge
• Takes direction and works independently, but also works closely with producers, photographers, and other personnel to discuss assignments and decide what works best for that story, newscast, and our overall product
• Maintains editing equipment. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree or minimum two years' experience
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be a team player
• Proficiency editing in Adobe Premiere Pro; Adobe Suite experience is a plus
• Experience with iNews/ENPS, Bitcentral or similar programs are a plus
• Must be able to cut VO/VOSOT's/PKG's
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Perform well under pressure and ability to problem solve
• Ability to pay extreme attention to details
• Knowledge of local, national, and international current events
• Brings story ideas to the table and helps think of creative ways to tell them
• Flexibility to work any shift
