Job Description
Nexstar Media Inc. has an immediate opening for an experienced News Director who is an innovative and dynamic leader for a newly formed duopoly in the Washington DC DMA, Market #9. The News Director will work with station leadership to launch new and expanded newscasts and local programming on WDVM, WDCW (CW) and our digital assets in the market. Candidate must have a proven track record of leading news teams in the creation of compelling news and local content across linear and digital platforms.

Washington DC is the center for the nation's politics, but the market offers so much more. The city is home to some of the best museums in the country…from the Smithsonian to the National Museum of African American History and Culture to the National Archives. You will find year around theaters with live shows, concerts, streets festivals and more. DC is also a sports mecca with professional basketball, baseball, football, hockey, soccer and more. There's plenty to do outdoors from the National Parks to bike trials. Washington, DC also boasts incredible food with more than 20 restaurants receiving Michelin stars in 2021 alone. It's a great place to live, and a great place to lead a news team!

We are looking for a leader that has vision and can develop strategies and communicate them effectively to their team. The News Director leads and supervises all aspects of news, weather and sports programming
• Manages all aspects of the News Department • Plans and manages staffing, training, and performance evaluations for the News Department.
• Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees.
• Develops news coverage strategy for the station and its website• Assigns projects to staff and verifies that deadlines are being met.
• Ensures achievement of viewer rating goals.
• Determines programming and evaluation of equipment needs to produce quality programming.
• Responds to coverage questions.
• Works with other senior station leaders to establish and reach station goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Minimum ten years' experience in news programming production, with at least five years' experience in a leadership role.
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
• Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
• Experience preparing and maintaining departmental budgets.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team to shape a solution .
