Job Description

Assists assignment manager and assignment editor in carrying out responsibilities of assignment desk, including coordinating and organizing daily field crew files and feeds, locating and retrieving file and archival materials, answering telephones, making beat checks, and assisting the assignment editor and reporters in setting up stories.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Organize daily field drives and retrieves file video. Use Latakoo/Tons/Bitcentral systems to send/receive video files from the field. Makes beat checks of police and fire departments. Log/transcribe daily video feeds. Answers viewer phone calls, taking stories from viewers. Checks for possible stories via all social media channels Checks email for possible stories and upcoming news events. Listens to viewers complaints; accepts criticism in an even-handed manner; and offers suggestions or answers as appropriate. Watch/log daily competition newscasts. Monitor social media for potential story updates or ideas. Send out reporter updates for each show. Assist affiliates with video/requests. Add newsworthy events, press releases, information to the daybook. Request video/photos from the public, using our legal guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

College degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Prefer experience in related field or with a radio or television station.

Excellent journalistic background.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Good communication skills, orally and written.

Able to take direction well

Self-motivated, career oriented and an eager learner

Can perform duties and make decisions under extreme pressure.

Must be capable of interacting positively and productively with others

Excellent people skills

Must be able to multi-task

Basic Adobe Premiere skills preferred

Knowledgeable of various social media platforms

Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
