This person must be highly motivated with an ability to focus and re-focus on a constantly changing target. The Digital Writer/Editor is responsible for updating their local website, curating high-performing content, crafting homepage layouts driven by data, and helping to report news. Building a loyal local audience by being responsive to traffic patterns and audience interest while serving as a steward of our brands.
Position Responsibilities:
• Writes stories for web
• Excellent at writing headlines that grow audience and engagement
• Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates engagement and repeat site visitation
• Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
• Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and be quick to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusive and/or trending content that will grow engagement and drive loyal, local traffic
• Pitches on-brand local and trending stories during editorial meetings
• Prioritize packaging content that grows page views per visitor and time on site, using headline testing, metric tools and observed patterns to guide decision making
• Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, work collaboratively on enterprise content and create opportunities to market web content on broadcast
• Develops and implements social media strategy across all products
• Manages all social media accounts with understanding of each unique audience
• Utilizes third-party tools to manage social posts across multiple accounts
• Sends app alerts and newsletters timed for maximum reach
• Flexibility to perform additional duties as needed
• Skill/Experience Requirements
• Experience as a social media producer
• Clever headline/social post writer that gets readers to click
• Ability to moderate tone and voice to fit platform and brand needs
• Strong multi-tasking abilities
• Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker
• Knowledge of audience behavior trends and technical ability to affect them
• Knowledge of AP style
• Some schedule flexibility (nights, weekends)
• Proficiency in Photoshop and Premiere
• Meets measurements of success
• Enjoys working in teams and is a strong communicator
• Quickly learns new skills and adapts to change
• Thrives under pressure and meets deadlines
• Self-motivated and competitive
• Approaches breaking news with dedication to accuracy and urgency
• Can deliver multiple web stories per day on various audience-driven topics
• Familiar with key agency contacts to obtain information as quickly as possible
• Understands social media's importance in reporting stories and delivering traffic
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office necessary; WordPress, Google Trends, Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Adobe Creative Cloud, and/or CrowdTangle experience a plus
• Responds positively to feedback
• Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
