Job Description
The Chief Engineer oversee the day to day operations of the Engineering Department and is responsible for the maintenance of all broadcast technology and equipment at the station.

The Chief Engineer manages the broadcast maintenance employees in performing proper maintenance of broadcast equipment and systems. Manages transmitter facilities. Manages the IT staff and oversee projects. Ensures proper installation, support and maintenance of all broadcast equipment and systems, and related software. Ensures the latest company, and industry standard IT security measures are maintained across all platforms. Keeps abreast of new technology and makes recommendations regarding its suitability for application. Plans and manages technical projects, including capital projects, and assigns project engineers. Ensure projects are completed according to station documented standards. Ensures technical staff are trained to support systems. Works direct with other key department managers to support their operations. FCC compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee station technical systems.
• Manage maintenance engineering staff and the IT department.
• Provide direction and oversight for repairs, maintenance, and new systems installations.
• Oversee transmitter and other station remote sites.
• Reports directly to GM and has dept head oversight with significant interaction with the senior management staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

Technical degree in Digital Electronics & Broadcasting

Possess a comprehensive understanding of equipment, systems, and workflow dynamics in a modern broadcast facility. Effective communication and leadership skills.

Experience with systems from providers such as Ross, Sony, Florical, RTS, wheatstone audio, Bit Central, Evertz, Cobalt, IP, Dejero systems, AutoCAD experience, among others. Knowledge, understanding, practical experience with computer networking and security best practices, control room functions. Of course, training of systems will be available if needed.

Minimum at least five years supervisory experience in engineering and technology, within broadcast and/or production operations. College Degree

Experience to manage costs, including labor, and operating expenses.

COMPLEXITY:

Ability to interface well with other departments. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Ability to multitask under pressure and prioritize and pivot as needed. Good skills in troubleshooting. Ability to teach others to grow in this area. Must have good organizational skills. Emphasis on employee development and growth. Experience working in a union facility is a plus.
