Job Description

The Assignments Editor
o Works with Executive Producers, Assistant News Director and other managers in overseeing scheduling for all news departments
o Tracks stories from all sources including competing stations and websites, government agencies, wire services and community groups
o Answers incoming news calls, track incoming e-mails, follow police scanners and assigns daily news stories according to the news personnel available.
o Works with shift EP and assisting with dispatching photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories
o Coordinates logistics for news personnel
o Participates in daily story meetings and supplies a comprehensive list of all possible news stories and works with the Management Team to develop plans for all broadcasts
o Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories, including next day news planning note to staff
o Edits video clips as assigned
o Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
o Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
o Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:
o Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
o Fluency in English
o Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
o Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
o Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
o Flexibility to work any shift
