Job Description
NewsNation is seeking a focused, driven, and enterprising journalist to join our Washington, DC bureau as the National Security producer.
The producer will together with the National Security Correspondent cover national security, military affairs, terrorism, international affairs, and their intersection. This includes coverage of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, Defense Department, State Department, and the congressional committees responsible for oversight of the nation's security and defenses.
The position is based in Washington, DC
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Stay atop of developments within the defense, national intelligence and foreign policy communities
• Cultivate sources in the intelligence and foreign policy communities
• Demonstrated ability to field produce, craft scripts, and manage planning and logistics
• Produce content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, mobile, etc.
• Work with management to enterprise and develop stories
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required
• At least three to five years broadcast or digital production experience
• Prior experience covering national security and intelligence
• Background in reporting, research and writing
• Must be willing to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice
• Must be willing to work in Washington, DC but travel as needed domestically and international
• Understand importance of social media and social newsgathering
• Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all network personnel
• Operate newsroom computer systems
