Job Description
NewsNation seeks an experienced investigative producer interested in a unique opportunity to build and lead an investigative team for America's fastest growing cable news channel. The investigative producer will coordinate the reporting and production process for investigative stories for the network. The ideal candidate is innately curious, passionate, resourceful, collaborative and has a commitment to strong, fair original reporting.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Must pitch and develop long term investigative story ideas
• Must be able to identify investigative angles and report to enhance and advance network coverage of breaking news and daily news stories
• Must be comfortable conducting extensive research, and submitting public records requests
• Must have experience with computer assisted reporting, data driven reporting, and social newsgathering as tools
• Must develop and maintain sources which generate investigative story ideas and further the network's reporting
• Must be able to coordinate shoots and work independently with a photojournalist to shoot a story in totality
• Must have experience helping to partner with photojournalist to shoot stories in a way which is engaging, enterprising, creative, and demonstrates good storytelling
• Must be comfortable scripting and working with an editor to edit packages
• Must be comfortable working with legal and standards throughout process to ensure reporting meets highest editorial and legal and ethical standards
• Must be comfortable collaborating with managers, the assignment desk, and show teams
• Must also be comfortable working with digital team as needed to produce collateral material or original content from investigative reports
Qualifications/Requirements
• Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism, political science, history, English, or a related field of study
• At least 5 years as an investigative reporter, writer, producer and/or editor at a news organization
• Knowledge of investigative reporting techniques and approaches
• Knowledge of journalism ethics and legal issues surrounding investigative reporting and editing
• Ability to shoot video and still photography to add to reported pieces
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
• Ability to travel as needed, and often with limited notice
