Job Description
NewsNation is seeking a correspondent to be based in Austin, Texas.
The correspondent will cover general assignment stories but also be expected to cover border security, immigration, and other intersecting issues. This includes developing relations with key constituencies at the state, regional and federal levels including but not limited to developing relationships with agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard and US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The candidate must also be comfortable operating as a multimedia journalist shooting, editing and producing own live shots as needed and also demonstrate the ability to write a compelling news script under deadline pressure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Pitch and cover stories across Texas, southwest and southern United States
• Stay atop of developments as it relates to the border, immigration
• Cultivate sources in local, state and federal government
• Crisply, clearly and concisely report on complex and nuanced geopolitical issues
• Produce content for multiple platforms, including broadcast and digital
• Work with management to enterprise and develop stories
• Demonstrate compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative graphics, and use of digital and social media platforms
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education)
• (5) years television anchoring or reporting experience required
• Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation
• Strong reporting skills
• Understand importance of social media
• Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all network personnel
• Operate newsroom computer systems
