Job Description
Netflix is looking for a creative, experienced, and effective Chief Privacy Officer who is a demonstrated thought leader to develop and drive our global strategy around privacy and data protection/security.

This role will set and assure execution of the Company's privacy and data security strategy, with a heavy focus on pragmatic business counseling on data usage and compliance issues. This is a great opportunity for a strategic thinker who has a proven track record of developing and executing on data use strategies, privacy compliance, and data security issues in a global context. This candidate will supervise and assure compliance worldwide with data and privacy laws in a balanced, risk-based manner that allows our business to grow and expand, drawing on knowledge and experience with specific government/industry requirements and best practices.

This position will engage with and counsel others in dealing with data protection authorities and policy makers, both in responding to inquiries from global, federal and state regulators and in partnering with other teams, such as our public policy and product legal group, to shape issues important to Netflix and our subscribers. The position will also oversee investigations, incident management, and adapt compliance practices proactively. Proven skill in collaborating cross-functionally and growing and empowering a global team is thus core to the position. The candidate will need to be interested in and able to develop a deep functional understanding of Netflix's business direction, data assets and information flows across the company as well as our use of big data analytics. Significant experience with online and mobile privacy, advertising, cloud computing and analytics, data strategy and governance, and COPPA/children's privacy will also be essential. In addition, the candidate will have experience building strong partnerships and educating about complex regulatory schemes across legal, compliance, technical infrastructure, product management, sales and marketing, and internal audit.

The position will report to the Associate General Counsel in Los Gatos, California, and will work in an ongoing and collaborative way with relevant Legal, Security, and Public Policy groups. The position is contemplated for either Los Gatos, California or Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Desired Skills and Experience
• At least fifteen years of experience handling complex privacy, data protection and security legal and policy issues with excellence, with international context/experience necessary and in-house experience a strong asset. Experience in the tech industry, advertising, and/or gaming is a plus, as is in-house legal work as well as a CIPP certification

This position also requires, at a minimum, the following experience and personal skills:
• Strong substantive knowledge of US privacy and security laws as well as international data protection laws, including emerging trends, and a working knowledge of international privacy and data protection laws
• Possesses a good technical understanding of Internet and networking technologies
• Fluency with key privacy regulators and relevant policymakers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including extensive, prior experience negotiating and drafting privacy/security provisions and disclosures
• Ability to navigate ambiguous situations, work well under pressure with diligence, organization, and minimal supervision, and provide practical, real-world advice to clients
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
• Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues, particularly in a fast-paced corporate setting
• Experience managing a team and strong collaborative leadership skills
• A great sense of humor

If this role is based in California the overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $1,100,000 - $1,800,000 (USD).
