The Role

The Production Finance Associate will be part of our Netflix Originals Film and Series team based in our Amsterdam office. This role will support our Production Finance team and cross-functional teams protecting company financial exposure through production oversight and controls.

These include:

i) providing valuable insight and guidance to best protect and control Netflix's investments

ii) supporting the financial life-cycle of productions from Development through Delivery

iii) providing comprehensive and current market intelligence

iv) implementing innovative financial solutions to facilitate smarter decision-making. Both internally within the content/production team, and externally with our productions and partners.

The Responsibilities:
• External
• Work effectively and decisively within the Netflix Originals Series and Film team to coordinate with third party production companies who are producing local content for Netflix
• Closely align with Physical Production, Business and Legal Affairs, and Content teams to manage cost controls and production processes. Knowledge and familiarity with each of these functions and workflows is important.
• Establish and maintain close contact to third party production companies and be their point of contact in all financial matters
• Analyzing and reviewing cost reports and budgets for tracking throughout the life-cycle of a production, including communication with third party production companies on eventual variances
• Help and guide third party production companies' accounting teams to implement new procedures and adjust to the Netflix reporting requirements.
• Onboard production accounting teams to Netflix policies and procedures.
• Ensure regional laws and financial regulations are followed by our production partners
• Be an integral part in the research and development of new technologies and software, that will influence the next generation of production finance tools
• Travel to grow market intelligence and keep informed of current industry trends
• Research or have knowledge of local production capacity (stages, vendors, equipment, crewbase)
• Understanding of financial landscape in key markets (banking, accounting, compliance, etc)

• Manage cash flow, forecasting, and funding processes for all projects in the region
• Update production finance information in Netflix systems, including: tracking and processing production fundings, tracking payments and consolidating finance information with other teams including Production Tax, Residuals and Content Accounting
• Track and advise on any applicable production incentives and tax receivables
• Work with our financial engineers develop and test the next generation of production finance reporting tools and apps
• Advise on how to grow production accounting/finance in the market via training and outreach.

Experience/Qualifications
• Credentials
• 5+ years in-house financial executive experience or freelance work on productions
• Degree in accounting or finance preferred.
• Fluency in English.
• Role to be based in Amsterdam, Netherlands
• Knowledge
• Strong understanding of all of the financial elements needed to bring an original production to life. An ideal candidate needs to be familiar with everything included in a production budget.
• Strong budgeting, production accounting, and accounting software experience is a plus
• An understanding of the production process from Development to Delivery, is key. There is an emphasis on production knowledge in Production Finance.
• Broad understanding of regional financial production practices and government regulations as related to film production.
• Understanding of local payroll, tax, banking, and invoicing processes.
• How to communicate effectively (both internally and externally) and maneuver within a lean, fast-paced, and high performing content team. As mentioned above, it's important to understand the roles and responsibilities of a content/production team.
• Ability to identify potential hurdles for our productions and help to keep a project on track
• Understanding of production service/commissioning contracts is a plus.
• Knowledge of film financing and back-end distribution is a plus.
