Led by our Vice President, Privacy/Security Legal, our Data Privacy and Security Legal team supports the privacy needs of the entire business ranging from business counseling to building and supporting our privacy program. The team's overarching goal is to advance compliance with data protection and security laws in a balanced, pragmatic risk-based manner that allows our business to grow and expand, drawing on knowledge and experience with specific government/industry requirements and best practices.
About the Role
Netflix is seeking to add a Manager to its Data Privacy & Security Legal team, to be based in Los Gatos or Los Angeles. The Manager will focus on varied aspects of our Privacy Program, including building out the company's privacy accountability program and associated infrastructure to support the same. These responsibilities will include: building and maintaining team and company-facing knowledge bases, operationalizing them and making them more efficient and effective; and working with other privacy legal managers on establishing and streamlining our accountability program through establishment of protocols and adoption of technology. With oversight from counsel and in coordination with other legal managers, the manager may also operate and evolve aspects of our privacy accountability, supporting our corporate (employee) privacy program, and how we monitor and track new and amended privacy laws.
We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of privacy frameworks and some experience implementing the same. In supporting our privacy program and operations including accountability, they will need to understand our corporate structure, goals, and reality-based decision-making and how that aligns to our privacy program. This role will need to adapt to and develop a deep understanding of our privacy program and potential areas of improvement.
The position will initially report to the Director of Data Privacy and Security, and will work in an ongoing and collaborative way with relevant Legal, Privacy Assurance Engineering, Governance, Internal Audit, and other corporate teams.
Desired Skills & Experience
At least 4 years of experience advising on related data privacy issues, and building/managing privacy programs, including establishing practices to maintain compliance and accountability. Experience in the entertainment, online advertising, and/or technology industries required, in-house legal work is a plus. Facility with languages in addition to English is also a plus. This position also requires, at a minimum, the following experience and personal skills:
• Strong substantive knowledge of applied privacy laws
• Ability to work well under pressure with diligence, organization, and minimal supervision, and provide practical advice to stakeholders
• Excellent judgment and ability to communicate (orally and in writing) concisely and candidly
• Strong collaborative skillsSolid project management skills and strong attention to detail
• Strong computer skills (with an ability to keep learning) Experience working with content management, workflow management systems and privacy program tools (such as OneTrust for cookie management) a plus
• A bachelor's degree, preferred but not required
• A sense of humor
