Netflix is the world's leading streaming entertainment service with over 200 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen.

Netflix's Documentary Series team is responsible for content like Tiger King, Our Planet, Chef's Table, Last Chance U and Making a Murderer, just to name a few. The Business & Legal Affairs professionals on the team negotiate and draft the agreements related to the acquisition, development, and production of this content, and advise on legal issues that occur during production of Netflix's documentary series.

Netflix is seeking a Legal Associate to join the Documentary Series team, based in Los Angeles. This person would support the business & legal affairs team by handling a wide array of contract administration, legal operation, coordinating and drafting responsibilities related to the acquisition, development, and production of this content. This support will include: recognizing the need for, and being responsible for the creation and regular updating of, various contract templates and forms, and various deal, project and related trackers; legal administration; drafting of agreements, notices and other legal documents; liaising with internal creative, production, finance and legal support partners to gather information necessary for contract negotiations and legal vetting; tracking the execution of documents, options and arranging for timely signatures, renewals and amendments for existing agreements; conducting periodic reviews of forms to ensure ongoing compliance with Netflix and legal requirements; establishing and formulating workflows to facilitate smooth collaboration with internal partners; and the review and revising of various production agreements and guidelines for our productions. The Legal Associate will work cross-functionally with the many teams that help create our documentary series.

The successful candidate will welcome the opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, high-volume, dynamic and growing team and will exhibit excellent judgment in execution. Such a candidate will thrive in an environment that values thoughtful efficiency over blind adherence to process.

This candidate must:
• be one of the following: paralegal or legal professional (having a JD is a plus), and have 5+ years contract administration, business and legal operations coordination and drafting experience;
• have experience in the development, production and licensing of documentary or unscripted television and/or film programming;
• be familiar with filmed entertainment production and deal making;
• possess outstanding written communication, contract drafting, negotiation, and internal networking skills;
• demonstrate substantive knowledge of contract law principles;
• have strong organizational and project management skills, allowing many projects to keep moving simultaneously; and
• have a solid foundation with, and experience managing, administrative tools and databases.

The successful candidate will also possess the following abilities and traits:
• the ability to maintain a team-oriented approach while also making independent decisions under tight deadlines with imperfect information;
• the ability to discern when ''process'' is an encumbrance and when it is an efficiency driver;
• a solution-oriented mindset;
• the willingness to tackle matters, and the capacity to contribute effectively, outside one's area of expertise;
• the willingness to adapt and to embrace change with enthusiasm;
• the courage to challenge prevailing assumptions, and the insight to suggest better approaches;
• a knack for making connections that other miss; and
• a default approach that favors sharing information openly and proactively.
