Engineering Manager - Media Systems

The Encoding Technologies team is looking for an experienced engineering leader and media expert who will drive strategy and lead projects in the area of Media Formats and Systems. This technology is at the heart of the business -- it is integral to a connected and innovative Netflix studio that produces amazing content and is essential in delivering the content seamlessly to millions of Netflix devices.

What the Media Systems team does
• Develops libraries and services for parsing, inspecting and authoring of various media formats. This includes studio and source formats like Quicktime ProRes and SMPTE IMF, streaming delivery formats such as ISOBMFF/mp4, and timed text formats like TTML and WebVTT.
• Collaborates cross functionally with Netflix studio teams to define and integrate new ingest specifications and adopt the best media formats for studio workflows.
• Collaborates cross functionally with Netflix client teams to deploy and test new streaming formats and technologies.
• Participates in standardization activities on media systems technologies in groups such as SMPTE, W3C, Alliance for Open Media (AOM), and MPEG.

• Product Leadership: You will define and execute the team's roadmap through close collaboration with partner teams. You will effectively prioritize and organize work to find the best outcomes for team members and partners.
• As part of the Encoding Technologies leadership team, you will leverage your management and technical skills to help improve the larger Encoding Technologies organization.

About You
• You have experience in hiring and managing high performance software engineering teams.
• You have hands-on experience with media formats and technologies. For example, you have built encoding systems, media processing products, studio media workflows or player pipelines.
• You have excellent communication skills.
• You thrive in building strong partnerships with other leaders and teams.
• You can work through ambiguity and show good judgment when evaluating the needs of the business.
