Job Description
At Netflix, we connect people around the world with stories they will love. It's an exciting time to join the Company as we continue to grow and transform entertainment globally.

This growth makes Netflix a target for patent assertion by patent trolls and operating companies in the US and abroad. The Legal team seeks an experienced patent litigator to join its litigation team and defend against those assertions. The position is based in Los Gatos, California. The position reports to the Director of Patent Litigation, will be part of the larger litigation team, and will collaborate and partner with various groups across the company, including Legal, Product, and Engineering.

In this role, the successful candidate will be a member of Netflix's patent litigation team and will partner and collaborate with the Director of Patent Litigation to formulate and set strategy, and will supervise and direct outside counsel to drive that strategy. The Counsel will be responsible for overall case management of their assigned cases, including review of filings, facilitating discovery, and overseeing every phase of litigation from complaint to final judgment. The position requires a high degree of self-sufficiency and independence.

The successful candidate will thrive in an environment where freedom and responsibility are tenets, innovation and curiosity are mandates, and long-term vision and thoughtful judgment are prioritized over corporate processes. Risk tolerance, excellent legal judgment, and common sense are essential in this role. The successful candidate will be part of a supportive and fun team of lawyers, legal professionals, and support staff who work closely together to protect and defend Netflix's interests.

Qualifications:
• A JD and be a member of a state bar with 6+ years experience in patent litigation, with additional experience in patent prosecution or licensing a plus.
• A background in computer science or computer engineering and experience with audio/video encoding and internet technologies preferred.

The successful candidate will also:
• Have excellent judgment and concise and candid communication.
• Be able to work effectively, proactively, and collaboratively.
• Think practically and be solution-oriented.
• Have strong and interesting views on patentable innovations, litigation shenanigans, and emerging technologies.
• Have a good sense of humor, be self-aware, and be willing and able to give and receive feedback.
