Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Vice President, Business Affairs will be primarily responsible for development and series related agreements in connection with scripted television programming, including, but not limited to, writer, director, producer, and actor test option deals for Universal International Studio (a studio within Universal Studio Group) supporting Working Title Television, Carnival Films, Heyday Television, Matchbox Pictures, and internal productions. This role will also support the broader Universal Studio Group portfolio as needed and report to the SVP, Business Affairs in the US with a dotted line to the SVP, Business Affairs in the UK.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Negotiate all aspects of scripted programming deals with talent agents and lawyers (including profit participation, rights agreements, and overall/first look deals) in direct liaison with the relevant stakeholders within the studio.
• Interface with the following departments on a day-to-day basis: Creative, casting, production, labor, legal, publicity, finance, ad sales, music, syndication, and marketing and BA admin.
• Review budgets and other financial data associated with the development and production of aforesaid programming.
• Draft short-form deal memos and test option agreements, as well as review long-form agreements for accuracy of terms negotiated and coordination of payment authorizations.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Must have a minimum of 10 years' experience in television Business Affairs
• Flexibility: The role will involve extensive liaison with stakeholders in the UK, as well as Australia. The ideal candidate will start the workday no later than 8am LA time to accommodate UK working hours
• Strong and effective negotiating skills and excellent drafting skills
Desired Characteristics:
• Bar Admission
• Prior experience negotiating development and series related agreements for broadcast and/or cable scripted programming, studio/network experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of international Business Affairs, particularly in the UK market
• Demonstrated experience and willingness to perform at a high level as a team player
• Working knowledge of the SAG, WGA and DGA basic agreements and the AFTRA Code
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced in-house environment
• Superior organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize work
• Demonstrated ability to execute and follow-through
• Demonstrated initiative; self-starter and accountable

• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA
• Must have work authorization to work in the United States
• Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week
