The Position

NBCUniversal Advertising Platforms & Operations is responsible for the product development, project management, and day-to-day operations of NBCUniversal's full advertising technology suite. From product management to program management, from sales enablement to sales operations, from product marketing to strategic communications, our division services both internal and external customers in support of NBCUniversal's $10B+ annual advertising business. Together, we're building the platform that powers the future of advertising at NBCU.

The Product Marketing team within Advertising Platforms & Operations is responsible for communicating the value proposition of our technology suite to our customers, prospects, and across the greater NBCUniversal organization. We are currently seeking a Technical Writer who will be responsible for the delivery of product documentation and training materials to support NBCUniversal's advertising clients, third-party partners, and internal stakeholders across NBCUniversal's Advertising & Partnerships organization.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Technical Communications, the person in this role will:
• Provide documentation, including release notes, user help, one-sheets, FAQs, training decks, and other related collateral, to accompany AP&O products and strategic initiatives. This includes identifying documentation needs and analyzing available information, followed by content design and clear, effective writing, all to agreed deadlines. 
• Help define, scope, and take ownership of writing projects, following them through from planning to drafting to review to revision
• Work to AP&O technical communication standards and style guidelines and ensure compliance with the company's corporate quality and information security requirements 
• Help improve the organization and delivery of existing content to reduce redundancy, eliminate outdated information, and improve overall documentation experience 
• Become a subject matter expert and evangelist by developing deep knowledge of NBCU advertising platforms, ad sales operations, related ad sales and research systems, and advertising client buying processes, as well as the advertising competitive landscape
• Support other members of the Product Marketing & Content Strategy team as peer reviewer and proofreader
• Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams in support of their documentation and internal education needs
• Contribute to the usability, consistency, and effectiveness of our advanced advertising user interfaces by reviewing/providing language for instructional messages, UI labels, and other microcopy according to predefined UI guidelines

Qualifications/Requirements
• Three to five years of experience in a technical writing role, preferably with an advertising, media technology, or SaaS company
• Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
• Proven experience with a variety of help authoring, information design, and content management tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, Author-it, enterprise wikis)
• Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle and user-centered design concepts
• Strong grammar skills and attention to detail
• Familiarity with typical approaches to data architecture, application programming interfaces, common database types, and common web programming technologies
• Strong technical skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts using easily understood terms
• Experience working and collaborating with business owners, product owners, and other subject matter experts at all levels within an organization, from the help desk to senior management
• Highly organized and a self-starter, able to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Genuine enthusiasm for and commitment to providing high-quality user assistance

Desired Characteristics

Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or related field highly desirable
• Experience building eLearning modules and/or user assistance videos a plus
• Experience producing documentation for APIs
• Good working knowledge of media, media technology, and traditional vs. advanced advertising; for example, you know and can articulate the differences between linear TV, OTT, and OLV; you understand and can explain the advantages of both Nielsen demo-based buys and advanced audience-based buys
• Love of, or at least acceptance of, the Oxford Comma
