Responsibilities
The Sr. Counsel / Vice President, Labor Relations will be responsible for developing labor relations strategy and providing advice and counsel to senior business, HR and finance leaders, with specific focus on the Company's broadcast operations, including NBC News, NBC Sports, NBC and Telemundo Owned Television Stations, and its East Coast facilities and studio operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide strategic advice and counsel to internal clients, including HR professionals, business leaders across broadcast, managers and television production teams regarding labor laws and union contractual obligations.
• Act as lead spokesperson for Company in collective bargaining negotiations; negotiate side-agreements with guilds and unions as needed to facilitate television production; participate in industry contract negotiations on behalf of the company and provide all necessary support.
• Act as labor legal counsel in grievances, arbitrations and in proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board.
• Develop strong, constructive working relationships with labor union representatives
• Educate and advise business leaders and HR professionals in aspects of positive employment practices
Qualifications/Requirements
• Minimum of 8 years of labor relations/labor law experience.
• Superior negotiations skills leading in major labor/union contract negotiations.
• Excellent litigation skills and specific labor litigation/arbitration experience (NLRB experience preferred).
Desired Characteristics
• JD from an accredited law school and member of a state bar in good standing preferred
• Admitted to practice law, New York bar preferred.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including legal and business writing.
• Executive presence and the ability to interact with a range of personalities and styles and establish effective relationships within all levels of the organization.
• Strong leadership and influencing skills and the ability to gain the respect of, and build a rapport with, multiple constituencies, internally and externally
• Clear thinker with ability to quickly identify root causes of problems and develop creative and strategic solutions.
• Experience in the entertainment industry and with entertainment industry labor relations.
• Adaptable and collaborative style.
• Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information in a discrete manner
