Responsibilities

The regular hours for this role are Wednesday-Sunday, 7am-3pm ET. This role requires occasional flexibility on scheduling depending on staffing needs, including holidays. The Senior Weekend Editor will also oversee and manage a team of writers and editors.

This role can be based in New York or Los Angeles.

Weekends
• Serves as the lead digital editor for the TODAY Show on Saturdays and Sundays, collaborating with the broadcast team on editorial and social media content.
• Assigns, edits or self-publishes news, trending and pop culture stories of the day.
• Manages social media on weekends, programming new content produced on Saturdays and Sundays.

Weekdays
• Assigns and edits news, trending and pop culture stories of the day to writers and editors.
• Writes and edits original stories, interviews, features and profiles for the TODAY audience; contributes as needed or as bandwidth allows to editorial packages.
Overall responsibilities
• Pays critical attention to style, format, grammar and facts, and ensure the story has all appropriate reporting and outreach. Workshops copy with writers to ensure TODAY voice, creativity, and clear and concise copy.
• Ensures tone and story selection are aligned with TODAY.com's strategy and brand.
• Actively responds to and gives feedback on staff pitches.
• Ensures creative, conversational, digestible and TODAY-friendly headlines. Will A/B test as necessary.
• Collaborates with our Legal and Standards teams to ensure top-quality reporting.
• Works with our art team to follow their workflow and ensure optimal art for all stories.

Qualifications

Qualifications
• Previous and proven experience managing writers and editors.
• Passionate about pop culture, entertainment, trends and internet culture: You always have your finger on the pulse of what's buzzing.
• Previous experience working with freelance writers.
• Knowledge of producing editorial content for different audiences and platforms, such as search, social and partners.
• Previous experience managing and posting on social media.
• Must be willing to adhere to all Company COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols.
• In select work settings or where jurisdictionally mandated, must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or adhere to enhanced protocols.
• 5+ editing experience.

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
