Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, is home to global talent and delivers award-winning content to millions across the globe. Based in London, the business' in-house production companies include: Carnival Films (Downton Abbey, The Last Kingdom), Monkey Kingdom (The Real Housewives of Cheshire & Jersey, Made in Chelsea), Working Title Television (We Are Lady Parts, Everything I Know About Love), Australian-based Matchbox Pictures (Stateless, Clickbait), and Heyday Television (The Capture, Clickbait). Universal International Studios also houses a London and LA-based scripted unit that develops and produces original series (Hanna, Dodger). It comprises a global formats group and partners with third party production companies, broadcasters, networks and platforms to make global hit shows (Transplant, Pretty Hard Cases). OVERVIEW – ROLE PURPOSE
The newly created Senior Financial Analyst role in the Commercial Finance team will be a key role to provide analytical, commercial business partnering to a wide suite of Executive level stakeholders. This is a role with broad responsibilities and has been created to support growth areas of the Studio. The role will be fast paced and broad in remit, with responsibilities covering investment decisions in talent and TV shows, day-to-day support of some Scripted production companies as well as long term focussed strategic planning and analysis. The role will be integral to helping the business make effective and efficient investment decisions, taking smart risks to support our growth agenda. The role sits within an immediate team of eight people.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Investment in new talent deals: provide analysis and recommendations on proposed new talent deals. Complex analysis must be distilled and presented succinctly highlighting the key issues, sensitivities, and recommendations to enable the business to make effective decisions. Continued appraisal of current talent investments with a proactive culture of feedback and learning to improve future decision making.

Investment in TV shows: provide analysis and recommendations on proposed investment in TV shows. Identify the key drivers of the investment model and proactively work with stakeholders to drive decision making ahead of Greenlighting a new TV show.

TV Formats: provide analysis and recommendations on new business development opportunities within the Global Formats team of NBCUniversal. Formats, an exciting area of growth for the Studio, requires a strong financial partner to help define new business opportunities.

External market analysis: provide analysis on key TV markets, including communicating key market dynamics, competitor analysis and identifying opportunities for exploitation.

Strategic long range planning: support the Finance and Business Development team on modelling long range plans.

Production label business partner: work closely with the Production Company management team to provide reporting and analysis on financial performance, development spend, title delivery and any other ad-hoc finance support.

Preparation and maintenance of TV show Ultimates: assist the Finance Manager with greenlight documentation, ultimate updates, month end review and running of amortisation, participations & residuals and tracking FX.

Ad-hoc projects and tasks as required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

⦁ Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with experience in Commercial Finance and FP&A, preferably within the Media industry.
⦁ Strong analytical mindset and ability to communicate complex financial and strategic issues to non-finance people.
⦁ Ability to use a broad suite of communication tools (e.g. Powerpoint, Word memos or in-person presentations where appropriate), a good listener and a persuasive influencer.
⦁ Advanced modelling skills in Excel (e.g. sensitivity analysis, return on investment models); ability to leverage these skills across immediate operational analysis as well as complex strategic models.
⦁ Ability to work at pace, using judgement to prioritise tasks whilst not compromising on quality; strong attention to detail.
⦁ Ambitious and enthusiastic self-starter who is highly motivated and comfortable managing change. They must demonstrate ownership of their area and a can-do attitude. The successful candidate will be proactive, creative and have a curious solution focused mindset.
⦁ Strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Ability to work comfortably across different timezones, including the US and Australia.
⦁ Previous experience of Ultimates Accounting and IT business reporting software (e.g. BPC, SAP) would be preferable.
