Headquartered in Beijing, Universal Pictures International (China) was established in 2014, and is responsible for managing the China market for all NBCUniversal entertainment content through theatrical, online and VOD platforms, as well as the development of digital gaming, local acquisitions and productions, plus the distribution of consumer products through our Shanghai office.
Job Overview
The Publicity Manager is a very important role in the marketing team, based in Beijing. Responsible for outward communications for all our theatrical film releases, plus an important media relations contact for all corporate communications matters relating to the Universal Pictures office in China, the candidate needs to possess both excellent media contacts within the field of entertainment as well as act with the highest levels of professionalism and integrity.
The position reports to the locally based Senior Manager, to work closely with the global publicity team and international marketing team. The candidate must be willing to travel to support press activities and events and must have extensive experience in dealing with press conferences, trade and consumer events, press junkets, crisis PR management, press releases and digital/social media partnerships.
Excellent spoken and written English and Mandarin, strong strategic and innovative publicity skills and a passion for Hollywood movies are essential.

Campaign Development:
• Develop and nurture strong relationships with various media outlets, cultivate new contacts.
• Responsible for organising and facilitating inspiring kick-off Publicity brainstorm sessions for each film.
• Work closely with the core theatrical team (Promotions, Digital marketing, Trade marketing and Sales) on each designated Universal theatrical title to develop a strategic publicity plan, maximizing the noise level of each film both well before the release date is set, and during the lead up to release period.
• Working very closely with all the functional teams in Marketing department to ensure continual growth and maintenance of the presence of our brand and franchise on social media platforms
• Generating publicity plans and strategies for local acquisitions.
• Build strong relationships with local celebrities, Talent Agents, leading KOLs and influencers.
• Writing up press releases for both key traditional and digital media outlets to communicate messages for potential and confirmed releases. Handle the launch of new posters, trailers, publicity shots online to designated media outlets and company owned social media accounts.
• Ability to support talent planning with Senior Manager for local talent needs such as film dubbing, local promotion appearances, social/publicity content planning where celebrities and local talents are involved.

Event Management:
• Planning and executing talent tours, press junkets, screenings, press days, set visits, live TV & radio appearances.
• Working closely with the theatrical markting team on the development, implementation and media maximisation of all marketing events, to include publicity schedule development, maximization of publicity impact, management of talent media exposure, security and all related talent tour logistic

Agency Management:
• PR Agency management, including selection and briefing, fee and budget management, timelines and on-site event management, review of performance and follow up campaign reports.
• Working with all function teams to prepare reports for media monitoring and social media impact of various trailer launches and campaign initiatives.

Innovation and Publicity generation
• Seek out new and different approaches and ideas to bring freshness to each film. Ensure that recommended ideas are within strategy.
• Proactively bring new and different ideas and examples of innovative publicity– whether tactical or strategic – to spark new thinking.

Budget:
• Responsible for managing PR budget on designated theatrical releases.
• Work to main campaign budgets and maintain budget reconciliation.
• Take a lead role in supplier negotiations.

Qualifications/Requirements
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Thorough knowledge of the Chinese media and publicity landscape.
• Strong media relations within entertainment industry
• Proven experience of successfully managing theatrical campaign PR and Publicity within China.
• Strong negotiation, multi-tasking and organisational skills.
• Strong management skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload effectively working to tight deadlines in a fast moving and changing environment.
• Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as within a small team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluent in both English and Mandarin.
• The ability to think creatively.
• Strong English report writing skills, particularly in order to provide comprehensive and well-structured media coverage reports, periodic competitive reviews and event wrap up reports.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Eligibility to work in Greater China
• Educated to degree level
• Ideally 7+ years' experience in Publicity/Entertainment related fields
