Responsibilities
OVERVIEW
The News Assistant, News Desk supports the Supervising Producer and Assistant Producer in booking guests and editorial planning for CNBC International's Middle East bureaus,, based out of our Middle East headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
This role is ideal for candidates looking to enter into a career in journalism and TV news production, with a keen interest in business, the global economy, international relations and financial markets. You will enjoy interacting with people and be able to communicate effectively with high profile key stakeholders in the global business and finance industry. You'll consistently strive to acquire new knowledge and skills and demonstrate your perseverance and resilience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work closely with the Middle East editorial team to support guest booking and the coordination of guest segments.
• Learn the fundamentals of TV news production and work as part of a team to secure the best guests first and exclusively for the network.
• Support the team to conceive segment and story ideas and prepare interview questions.
• Research stories and guests and work to uncover new angles on stories.
• Grow and build relationships with guests, companies, PR agencies and various financial institutions around the region.
• Communicate with news teams, senior producers and news editors, anchors, and operations staff around the world regarding guest interviews.
• Learn to format line-ups and work well with CNBC iNews.
• Learn to cut clips from Wildmoka, tweet and promote CNBC's content daily across platforms.
• Edit transcripts for air, cutting sound and pushing out content across CNBC's global network.
• Develop strong news judgment to be able to conduct pre-interviews and prepare the guest for their on-air appearance, resulting in a robust interview.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• University degree or equivalent experience.
• Prior work experience or internship experience within a international news organisation.
• Excellent knowledge and passion for Middle East business, economics, and financial markets.
• Knowledge of, and interest in, European business, political and economic news.
• Capable of handling short deadlines and working in a fast-paced and demanding live news environment.
• Team player who displays flexibility to work varied hours depending on business needs.
• A clear understanding of CNBC's editorial and programming priorities.
• Excellent communication skills and multi-tasing capabilities.
• Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
REQUIREMENTS
• High standard of written English
• Languages: fluent in English. Arabic fluency is an advantage, but not essential
