Responsibilities

WRC/WZDC in Washington, DC is seeking to fill a Media Specialist role. The successful candidate will be an individual who embraces new technology and is resourceful at developing new ideas for improving news gathering and media management. The individual must be able to thrive in a fast-paced news environment, meeting deadlines while maintaining the highest quality of broadcast standards. The candidate should have a service mentality and understand that this role entails working closely and patiently with our news and technology staff. They will provide frontline, hands on support for multiple clients simultaneously using a customer service approach while following procedures for documentation and escalation.

Responsibilities include
• Quality control of all incoming and outgoing feeds. Including setting audio and video levels for live reporters taken to air.
• Ingest of all material into newsroom system. This includes file-based and baseband ingests from a multitude of router sources and systems.
• Knowledge of Bonded Cellular, IP Video Steams, Satellite and Microwave technologies
• Knowledge of video codecs and the ability to use provided tools to transcode files, for hand off to newsroom staff
• Ability to route and troubleshoot video feeds on the fly
• Day-to-day oversight of digital media on shared servers. This includes metadata tagging and correct naming conventions.
• Ensuring media is pushed to on air playback systems
• Monitoring media storage, routine maintenance and purging of media
• Troubleshooting user reported newsroom system issues and escalating as required to internal Technology and outside vendors
• Providing instruction of system use to newsroom employees. This includes our team of Content Producers, Platform Managers, Assignment Managers, Digital Media, Creative Services, Photographers and Reporters.
• Proactive approach with newsroom staff.
• Engaging with newsroom staff on daily strategy, planning and editorial process.
• Selectively archiving rundown elements for daily newscasts and verifying integrity of files
• Providing first class support and guidance to newsroom staff
• Tier 1 newsroom system support for users
• Basic Adobe Premiere editing to support newsroom staff
• Performing ingest of topical media for same day air

Qualifications

Basic Requirements
• Minimum 2 years working with postproduction process (media acquisition to playback for air)
• Minimum 2 years working knowledge in basic computer networking and operation and use of Microsoft Remote Desktop
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• Must be willing to work in Washington, DC
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Desired Characteristics
• Knowledge of broadcast news workflows and technology: non-linear editing using post-production software (Adobe Premiere), P2 ingest, video playback systems (Omneon) and file storage (Isilon), as well as transcoding of different video formats (Vantage/Adobe Media Encoder)
• In-depth experience ingesting, trimming, migrating, playing out and achieving news material. Specifically understanding the importance of metadata tagging and correct naming conventions.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
• Experience with Dalet Media/Dalet Galaxy newsroom production
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interface with all levels of management and user community
• Able to quickly learn a broad array of technologies and apply that knowledge to real-world problems
• Effective performer under aggressive timelines and high-pressure situations
• Spanish language skills a plus
