Responsibilities
Work in a fast-paced news organization, manage a team of software engineers and play a lead role in the architecting, developing, and planning of large-scale projects across multiple digital platforms (Desktop/Mobile/Apps/OTT/Emerging-platforms). Opportunity to learn different facets of business and interact with cross-functional leaders and team members across the organization. Work in an Agile environment with the right blend of management and hands-on execution.
Responsibilities include:
• Partner with Editors and other business stakeholders to build Software solutions, backend components of websites, Mobile/OTT API using Content Management Systems (WordPress), and PHP.
• Work closely with project/product managers to work on the initial planning sessions, give high-level effort, and participate in progressive elaboration along with other agile ceremonies.
• Architect, design, and build a modern and scalable framework in WordPress CMS, PHP, and other technologies.
• Lead and develop WordPress plugins, API's and feed integrations.
• Engage in mentoring, coaching, and leading a close group of onsite and offshore backend developers.
• Lead meetings, do presentations, and be the thought leader when it comes to backend software engineering
• Monitor, build and run servers on EC2 by implementing various Amazon web services.
• Work with technical and cross-functional teams to streamline workflow and iterate on creative ways to solve complex business scenarios.
• Work in a fast-paced environment, make rapid decisions and can drive creative solutions.
• Lead backend automation solutions and partner with other tech teams to streamline the process.
• Evaluate build vs. buy decisions, be involved in vendor sections, and manage the relationships.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 yrs. of leading and managing a technical team or equivalent work exposure, mainly PHP.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on coding experience in PHP, MySQL (or any RDBMS) JSON/XML/RSS, Ajax, and any scripting language.
• Hands-on experience in AWS services and their management.
• Proficient with designing, architecting, and implementing large-scale applications.
• Knowledge of DNS, load balancers, caching strategies, and server infrastructure.
• Experience in building and owning large-scale internet applications.
• Experience with performance testing, tuning, and troubleshooting.

Educational Qualifications
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
Additional Requirements:

Salary range: $130,000 - $170,000; bonus eligible
