Role

The Film Music Publishing department stewards and monetizes the studio's 100-year old music catalog as well as serving the studio's music needs for branding/franchise support and for feature & TV production. We are the in-house music publishing team for our diverse film and TV portfolio which encompasses Universal, DreamWorks Animation, Illumination Entertainment, Focus Features, Amblin, Blumhouse, 1440 Home Entertainment and various other partners. We are passionate about the music business and are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, collaborative, solution-oriented self-starter to join our prolific team.

The Manager, Publishing position provides support to Director, Music Publishing and SVP, Film Music. We are looking for a collaborative, team-player to work at a top publisher of one of the biggest film/tv music catalogs in the industry.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Oversee and handle the studio's cues sheet process for all its theatrically/PVOD distributed feature & related productions
• Lead cue sheet screening discussions
• Prepare official cue sheets in the RapidCue system
• Obtain cue details (e.g., timings, cue titles, use types, writer/publisher names & percentage, PRO affiliations) firsthand, from other NBCU departments, and 3rd parties such music editors, PROs, music publishers, and music attorneys, as needed.
• Ascertain and assure that contents of cue sheets conform to industry standards
• Supervise cue sheet reporting/tracking process
• Notify PROs if cues sheets will be late
• Act as department point person for select studio vertical(s)
• Work with the vertical's respective Branding, Franchise, Marketing, Promo, Parks & International t eams to advise on their music needs regarding our catalog regarding rights, restrictions, approvals, costs, and general industry considerations.
• Oversee development & implementation of department systems and establish & maintain data standards
• Update and maintenance of studio's online catalog system (powered by SourceAudio)
• Development of catalog marketing pieces
• Responsible for exporting publishing data from RapidCue to iMaestro using our proprietary migration tool (RIOT)
• Oversee development of catalog pitching system, including standards for storage of contact information
• Responsible for exporting legacy publishing data from our proprietary database (MARS) to iMaestro.
• Work with IT and our music publishing administrators to develop and oversee a system to transfer catalog music data
• Oversee amendment of music rights metadata and input of additional music rights metadata as needed
• Establish and maintain music publishing and master licensing data standards
• Produce reports of Branding/Franchise music usage tracking, licensing out activity/revenue, AFM licensing, music catalog content, and other music rights information related content
• Supervise data entry of licensing revenue, license tracking and music rights information
• Work with neighboring rights administrator to systematize and help gather metadata needed to service SoundExchange, PPL, AdRev IP registration
• Work with IT to maintain & develop Work the studio's proprietary master licensing, tracking, and reporting system (MALT)
• Handle license fee approval/quoting for portions of the studio's music catalog
• Special projects, as needed
• Supervise interns
• Light office duties as occasionally needed

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• 3-5 years of music industry experience
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with music rights data systems and with Microsoft Office programs or equivalent
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in music industry studies or related field

Desired Characteristics

Desired Characteristics:
• Experience with the cue sheet creation process
• Min. 3+ years experience at record label, music publishing company, PRO, music clearance company or similar organization preferred
• Familiarity with RapidCue and Counterpoint a plus
• Familiarity with Excel and Access (or similar database system)
• Extremely detail-oriented, quick learner who is organized and able to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Advanced understanding of and experience in music publishing, and familiarity with music clearance and negotiation process
• Experience at a record label
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing
• Trustworthy with sensitive and/or confidential information
