NBCUniversal International is expanding its digital business and launched Hayu in 2016. The service is a direct-to-consumer video streaming service, covering multiple countries including the UK and Australia.
hayu is the first all-reality subscription video-on-demand service of its kind - available in 27 markets globally including: the UK, Ireland, Australia, the Nordics, Canada, Benelux union, Germany, Austria, The Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore on a full array of devices (mobile, tablet, laptop & connected TVs) at www.hayu.com. Over 300 shows and over 8,000 episodes are downloadable to watch-on-the-go, including Keeping Up With the Kardashians and its spin-offs – along with The Real Housewives, Below Deck and Million Dollar Listing franchises. The majority of US shows debut on the service the same day as their US launch.
Role Summary/Purpose:
hayu is looking for a highly driven Controller who can keep up with debits and credits while they keep it real like the Real Housewives. Someone with an affection for reality TV, candidates must have proven communication skills for interaction across both Finance & non-Finance teams.
The Controller is ultimately responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the general ledgers, balance sheet and corporate reporting of the hayu legal entity.
They must ensure that there is a strong control environment to support the business and its growth, and also regularly review processes, identifying potential improvement opportunities.
The Controller must also ensure that finances are accurately managed in accordance with company policy and the relevant accounting standards.
Key Relationships
The Controller will be working in a matrix structure in which they have touch points across both the NBCU Finance community and the wider hayu team. These include:
• Hayu Finance team
• Hayu non-Finance – Managing Director, Marketing, Operations, Product, Content
• Finance Operations (Accenture located offshore)
• Tax group
• Payroll
• External vendors
• 3rd Party partnerships
• Compliance function
Key Responsibilities
• Subscriber revenue reconciliation across multiple platforms & partners, and investigation of reconciling items
• CAPEX decision making in line with NBCU policy
• Oversee banking / platform payment partner integration, reporting & helping to own the payments roadmap
• Ownership of AR & AP ledgers and escalation of risk items
• Content amortisation & payment tracking including off balance sheet commitments
• Internal license fee & participations modelling
• Manage Accenture resources to complete workload, outsourcing further work where seen fit
• Influence key stakeholders at all levels to drive integrity and compliance of key responsibilities.
• Support broader NBCU D2C business with other initiatives as required
Month-end / Quarter-end Financial reporting
• Responsible for sign-off of Hayu balance sheet reconciliations and others as required
• Identify and address the main risks in order to facilitate a clean close
• Ownership of revenue & cost accrual process
• Escalate any issues or risks to the VP Finance & Strategy and suggest timely solutions
• Support financial planning and analysis function to drive accurate operating profit & cash flow pacing
• Quarterly balance sheet presentation to VP Finance & Strategy
Statutory audits
• Completing statutory audit work and internal audit requirements to ensure deadlines are met and key issues escalated to the relevant stakeholder
Governance, 3rd party & internal strategic partnerships
• Support FinOps' end-to-end P2P and R2R process improvement
• Ad hoc project work as determined by Division Controllers / VP Finance & Strategy including new territory & partnership set-up and contract interpretation
Skills & Experience
Essential
• Self-starter with good communication skills across various stakeholder groups
• Ability to cope in a fast, dynamic environment
• Problem solving ability
• Willingness to learn and help contribute to wider hayu growth
• Experience working with financial accounting systems and Microsoft Office
• Willingness to work flexible hours with tight deadlines
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
Desired
• SAP experience preferred
• Experience of working with outsourced partners
• Experience working in a large multinational corporation or digital business
