Digital Associate, Audience Development

Responsibilities
The Digital Associate program is a fast-track opportunity for aspiring digital news professionals. The participant will be placed within NBCUniversal Local's Audience Development team and in-market newsrooms that support Telemundo stations, to grow and engage digital audiences. The associates will be assigned a mentor who is an experienced staff member. At the end of the program, Digital Associates should be prepared for an Audience Development Editor position or related editorial role at NBCU Local.
Participants in the program will:
• Learn and develop strategies to grow monetizable audiences to NBCU Local Telemundo stations with an emphasis on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
• Learn SEO editorial best practices, from identifying high-potential stories to optimizing content and create content/advise on strategy
• Identify trending stories on search and social and seed them to local markets and national editorial teams, ensuring ideal packaging from ideation to publication
• Identify topics for evergreen search and social content and writing as necessary
• Work closely with colleagues in the research department to develop A/B test, create experiments and evaluate strategies to develop a burgeoning audience stream for Telemundo local
• Work closely with other members of the audience team to ensure top of funnel growth tactics sync with engagement and retention efforts
• Create, update and present training materials for editorial teams so that they stay on top of the latest audience development trends and remain up-to-date on understanding shifts in user behavior
• Monitor keyword rankings and competitive sets
• Providing regular insights to editorial teams about audiences in their market
• Work closely with other members of the audience team to ensure top of funnel growth tactics sync with engagement and retention efforts

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• At least 6 months of journalism experience preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish and English (Speaking/Writing)

Eligibility Requirements
• Must be willing to work in Miramar, FL
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Desired Characteristics
• Successful coursework in Broadcast Communications or Journalism
• Minimum 1 year of experience within a professional newsroom
• Strong writing skills
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
• Multimedia experience (video and photos), and familiarity with analytics and reporting tools are desirable
• Passion for local news
