Responsibilities
Role

The person in this role will be a member of the dynamic, fast-paced and tight-knit team that provides full-service legal support for NBCU's late night, specials and live events programming (which includes such flagship properties as Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, Late Night, The Thanksgiving Day Parade, NBC's live musicals, The Golden Globe Awards, Live from the Red Carpet and many others). The work involves providing practical and strategic legal guidance throughout all stages of the production process, with a focus on vetting show concepts and creative materials as well as negotiating a wide variety of agreements. This role will report to the head of legal affairs for late night, specials, and live events and will collaborate closely with members of the legal function across NBCU. Given the nature of the programming this team handles, weekend, holiday, and evening work may be required.

Responsibilities:
• Draft, review, negotiate and interpret a variety of deals, including talent, writer, producer, and director agreements, licenses, rights agreements, production services contracts, as well as other documentation.
• Pre-broadcast review of scripts and creative materials, with a focus on defamation, intellectual property, fair use, music clearance, and privacy in the comedy context. Advise on production legal issues.
• Identify and implement improvements to forms and processes.
• Work with the Legal Affairs team and colleagues in the Law Department on major projects with long-term business implications.
• Other matters as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements
Qualifications:
• Member of New York bar or other U.S. state bar and JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of 6 years of entertainment, media law, intellectual property and/or other relevant experience. In-house experience preferred.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Willingness to work nights and on weekends, if needed.
• Must be willing to work New York, NY. Role will initially be remote, but ultimately will be based in our New York, NY offices.

Desired Characteristics
• Excellent drafting/negotiating skills and familiarity with a wide array of entertainment transactions. Ability to structure and draft agreements independently and efficiently.
• Expertise in media law and content vetting, with experience advising creatives on defamation, privacy, copyright/fair use matters in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability, in a positive and practical manner, to approach complex legal scenarios in a thoughtful and analytic fashion.
• Ability to gain the respect of, and build a rapport with, multiple constituencies at all levels, internally and externally.
• Nimble multitasker who can manage a variety of projects on a tight schedule
• A true team player eager to work collaboratively within a team
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
